Wait, Is That A Bronco? 5 Things To Know About KP31 That Might Be Chery Malaysia's First Truck

According to a report by paultan.org, Chery is officially entering the pickup truck segment in Malaysia, and it is set to be a total beast. If you are looking for a rugged new ride, you might want to mark your calendars for Q2 or Q3 2027.
Here is the simple breakdown of what we know so far:
1. It will be "Made in Malaysia"
Because this is a brand-new model for our market, it will be locally assembled (CKD). It is expected to be built at Chery’s new Smart Auto Industrial Park in Lembah Beringin, which is being set up to handle high-volume models like this truck.

2. It’s an absolute unit (and looks like a Bronco!)

While Chery has a standard truck (codenamed KP11), Malaysia is likely getting the "buff" version known as the KP31.
- Size: At 5,610 mm long, it is much longer than the standard version.
- Style: It features a more aggressive look that many compare to the iconic Ford Bronco.
3. A "World's First" tech twist
Chery originally made waves by announcing a diesel plug-in hybrid (a world's first) for this truck. However, because diesel isn't the "flavor of the moment" anymore, Malaysia is expected to receive a petrol plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version instead. This version is about a year away from appearing, which fits perfectly with its 2027 Malaysian arrival.
4. What’s in a name?

The naming is a bit of a mystery!
- In China, the brand is called Rely.
- Globally, it is known as Himla, which is inspired by the Himalayas and stands for High performance, Innovation, Multifunction, Longevity, and All-terrain.
- However, it could also eventually wear an Omoda or Jaecoo badge.

5. High-volume expectations
Chery isn't just bringing this in as a niche product; they expect it to sell in high volumes. This is why production is slated for the new Lembah Beringin plant while their existing Shah Alam facility stays focused on lower-volume models.
With a mix of rugged "American-muscle" looks and modern hybrid tech, Chery is aiming for a big slice of the Malaysian truck market.
