"Please Don’t Buy This Car" — Why Ferrari Is Telling Its Hardcore Fans To Stay Away From Luce EV

When a legendary Italian supercar brand drops its most highly anticipated vehicle in a decade, you’d expect their sales team to be aggressively hunting down their wealthiest, most loyal collectors. But in a mind-boggling plot twist that has completely shocked the automotive world, Ferrari is doing the exact opposite.
Following the global unveiling of the Ferrari Luce, the brand’s first-ever fully electric vehicle, it was reported that Ferrari’s Chief Marketing Officer, Enrico Galliera, dropped an absolute bombshell.

His literal message to the brand's traditional, die-hard petrolhead collectors? "Please don't buy it."
For a car that costs a jaw-dropping €550,000 (around RM2.6 million before local Malaysian taxes and duties), begging your best customers to keep their wallets closed sounds like financial suicide. But behind the scenes, Maranello is playing a very calculated, high-stakes game of corporate reverse psychology.
Here is the juicy breakdown of why Ferrari is actively snubbing its traditional fanbase, and why the new Jony Ive-designed Luce is the most polarizing vehicle to ever wear the Prancing Horse badge:
1. Protecting Resale Values From Angry Petrolheads

Ferrari knows its core audience inside and out. Traditional collectors buy Ferraris for the screaming V12 or V8 combustion engine soundtrack. If these purists buy the electric Luce simply because of the badge, Ferrari fears they will quickly get bored, realize EV driving dynamics aren't their vibe, and rapidly flip or resell the car.
A sudden wave of wealthy owners dumping the Luce would completely destroy its second-hand residual value, a absolute taboo in the ultra-luxury car market.
2. Hunting For The Tech Elite (The 30-Something Silicon Valley Crowd)
Instead of prioritizing existing clients, Ferrari completely rewrote its launch playbook. Usually, around 90% of invitations to exclusive new Ferrari reveals go to existing owners. For the Luce, 50% of the invited guests were people who have never owned a Ferrari before.

Maranello is aggressively targeting tech-savvy entrepreneurs who already drive premium EVs and actually appreciate digital innovation over exhaust fumes. Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna even teased that a US tech entrepreneur in his 30s was among the first to beg for a build slot.
3. The "Apple-ification" Of A Supercar Legend
Part of why traditional purists are panicking is the car's stark, minimalist aesthetic. Co-designed by legendary ex-Apple design chief Jony Ive and Marc Newson via their collective LoveFrom, the Luce completely deletes the aggressive scoops, sharp lines, and chaotic vents that defined Ferrari styling for the past decade.

Instead, it’s an ultra-smooth, aerodynamic, shell-like glasshouse rolling on massive 23-inch front and 24-inch rear wheels. It looks more like a high-end luxury tech gadget than a traditional track monster.
4. Inside Jony Ive's Extreme Design Therapy Session

Step through the Purosangue-style rear suicide doors, and the cabin is a masterclass in tactility. This is the first-ever Ferrari to feature a full five-seat layout, and it ditches the usual touchscreen-overload trend. Instead, the steering wheel is CNC-machined Apple-style out of a single piece of recycled aluminium.

The physical key is wrapped in Corning Gorilla Glass and features an industry-first E Ink Ferrari insignia that changes colour when docked. There is even a mechanical-digital hybrid "Multigraph" clock on the dashboard with independent motors, bringing luxury Swiss watch complexity into a car cockpit.
5. Over 1,000 HP of Pure Electric Madness
For the petrolheads who do skip the warning and buy it, the performance figures are terrifying. Powered by a bespoke 800-volt, 122 kWh battery pack built entirely in-house at Maranello, the Luce utilizes four electric motors derived straight from the F80 hypercar.
- Total system output hits a staggering 1,035 horsepower.
- Pull the overhead launch control handle, and it rockets from 0 to 100 km/h in a ridiculous 2.5 seconds before hitting a top speed of 310 km/h.
- It delivers a massive 530 km of WLTP range and supports 350 kW DC fast charging, allowing you to juice up 70 kWh of battery in just 20 minutes.
A genius market evolution or a dangerous brand identity crisis?
By openly telling its most loyal, old-school collectors to sit this one out, Ferrari is making the ultimate power move. They aren't trying to force an electric powertrain down the throats of people who worship petrol V12s.

Instead, they hired Apple royalty to build an elite, minimalist tech statement meant to steal a brand-new generation of tech millionaires away from rival EV brands. It’s an incredibly risky gamble that has deeply split the internet, but love it or hate it, the Luce proves that Maranello isn't afraid to leave its comfort zone behind to conquer the future.
