Over the past month, PROTON has been quietly shipping advanced, real-world production engine units straight to selected workshops and higher learning centres across the country. Instead of just reading about horsepower on a screen, students now have direct, grease-on-their-hands access to actual automotive engineering hardware!

The massive move is part of PROTON's long-term mission to upgrade Malaysia's technical education ecosystem and make sure our graduates are completely industry-ready.

Curious to see if your campus scored this high-tech upgrade? Check out the 6 lucky TVET hubs and universities that just received the delivery:

The 6 Lucky Institutions On The Receiving Dock

If you or your friends are currently studying automotive engineering, your campus workshop might have just scored the ultimate upgrade. PROTON has successfully delivered these advanced production engines to six key higher learning and TVET centres spanning across the country.

The lucky lineup includes the Industrial Training Institute (ILP) Marang in Terengganu, Vocational College Arau in Perlis, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) in Johor, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), DRB-HICOM University of Automotive Malaysia in Pekan, and the PROTON Institute (ADTEC) in Melaka.

This means campuses from the northern tip of Perlis all the way down to Johor are officially dropping outdated training tools. By integrating actual factory hardware straight onto the lab tables, students at these specific institutions can finally bypass generic theory and get straight to mastering the exact mechanical systems used in the industry today.

What Are Students Actually Going To Do With Them?

This isn't just for display, guys. PROTON explicitly stated that these units are going to be used as active teaching aids. Students will be using them for:

  • Full Assembly & Disassembly: Literally taking the entire engine apart piece-by-piece and putting it back together.
  • Live Diagnostics & Component Analysis: Figuring out exactly how modern mechanical parts wear down and interact under pressure.
  • ECU Familiarisation: Getting inside the electronic "brains" of a modern vehicle to master advanced automotive coding and troubleshooting.

The Spoiler: Next-Gen EV Components Are Coming Next!

If you think this is just about petrol engines, think again. PROTON’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Ir. Abdul Rashid Musa, dropped a massive sneak peek into the company’s future roadmap.

He revealed that as the global industry rapidly shifts toward digitalization and smarter mobility, PROTON officially intends to expand this educational initiative to include EV-related components next! That means local TVET and university students will soon be learning how to handle high-voltage electric vehicle tech right in their classrooms.

Exactly what local technical education needs

Huge props to PROTON for keeping this commitment alive since 1983. In an era where cars are essentially turning into smartphones on wheels, our local talent can't just rely on old-school textbook drawings. Giving TVET and university students actual factory hardware to play with is the ultimate shortcut to turning Malaysia into a highly competitive, regional automotive hub, one engine and one classroom at a time!
