Chery Is Giving A Mind-Blowing 1,000,000 KM Engine Warranty On Their New TIGGO 9 Flagship SUV, But Is There A Catch?

If you’ve been keeping an eye on the local automotive scene, you probably noticed things are getting wildly competitive.
Yesterday, Chery Malaysia officially took the wraps off its brand-new premium flagship 7-seater SUV, the Chery TIGGO 9, at the iconic, newly refurbished Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad in Kuala Lumpur.
And while the SUV itself is completely loaded with luxury features, there is one specific detail on the brochure that is making everyone do a massive double-take: A mind-boggling 10-year or 1,000,000 km engine warranty.

Aside from its high-end cabin tech, the biggest talking point is undoubtedly the vehicle's standard inclusion of a 10-year or 1,000,000 km engine warranty. It’s an eye-catching figure that represents an incredible distance, but as with any comprehensive long-term warranty in the industry, it functions as a partnership between the manufacturer and the owner.
To maximize a million-kilometer safety net, there are standard maintenance policies, usage rules, and ownership boundaries that come into play.
Before you drop your booking, let's take a practical look at how this flagship warranty program operates and what it means for your daily driving routine.
First off, what exactly is the TIGGO 9?

Before we talk about the fine print, here is what you are actually getting. The TIGGO 9 sits dead-centre at the absolute top of the brand's local hierarchy. It is powered by a robust 2.0L TGDi turbocharged four-cylinder engine pumping out 256 PS and 390 Nm of torque, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and an intelligent all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.
Size-wise, it’s a big, handsome D-segment machine that is noticeably longer and wider than the Tiggo 8 Pro, serving serious "stealth wealth" vibes with flush automated door handles and a unique factory Matte Grey paint option.
Inside, it is basically a rolling first-class lounge:
- Front seats with built-in massage and ventilation functions
- A built-in cooling system right inside the front armrest console
- A 14-speaker Sony premium audio setup (complete with speakers built into the front headrests!)
- A massive standalone 15.6-inch 2.5K central infotainment system running a high-end Snapdragon chip

So, how much does it cost?
Chery is introducing the locally assembled (CKD) TIGGO 9 with a very unique "choose your own adventure" dual early-bird launch pricing layout:
- The Flexi Package (RM166,800): You get a straightforward, lower entry price on the vehicle without any added fluff. This package includes a 7-year vehicle warranty (up to 150,000 KM), a 10-year engine warranty (up to 1,000,000 KM), and 5 years of free service.
- The Prime Package (RM179,800): It looks more expensive on paper, but it piles on stackable early-bird incentives including a RM5,000 cash rebate, a RM3,000 petrol subsidy, and 1 year of free vehicle insurance (worth RM4,500). If you subtract those financial freebies, your math effectively drops to RM171,800!
Alright, let’s talk about the 1,000,000 KM Engine Warranty. What's the catch?
Historically, a million-kilometer warranty from Chery was an optional extended package that cost an extra premium. However, for this flagship launch, the 10-year / 1,000,000 km engine warranty is standard and included for both the Flexi and Prime packages!
But to keep that engine covered until the odometer hits seven digits, you have to play strictly by the manufacturer rules. Here is where the "catch" lives:
1. It applies STRICTLY to the engine itself

Don't mistake this for a bumper-to-bumper vehicle warranty. The TIGGO 9 comes with a standard 7-year or 150,000 km full vehicle warranty covering the general chassis, electrical systems, and electronics. The 1,000,000 km warranty covers only internal, lubricated engine components. If your infotainment screen or power window motor acts up in year eight, that's out of your own pocket.
2. The "Authorized Service Centre" Lock-In
As is typical across the industry, to maintain the validity of this million-kilometer engine safety net, your vehicle must be serviced strictly at authorized Chery service centers according to the official schedule. If you take your SUV to an outside third-party workshop for a cheap oil change, or if you miss your scheduled service window, the extended engine warranty is immediately voided.
3. It's only for private vehicle use?
While Chery built this premium cruiser for daily commutes and family road trips, you’ll definitely want to double-check the fine print if you intend to use it for work. Throughout the automotive industry, manufacturer-backed million-kilometer warranties are almost universally reserved strictly for private, individual consumer ownership.
If your game plan involves registering the TIGGO 9 for commercial fleet operations, such as e-hailing services, rental companies, or heavy-duty courier deliveries, make sure to ask the sales advisor for a clear breakdown of their commercial vehicle policy. In most cases, changing a car's registration type from private to commercial means the coverage limits will default back to a standard mileage cap to account for high-intensity wear and tear.
Is it a marketing gimmick or a genuine deal?

While it certainly functions as a brilliant marketing tool to get people talking, it is absolutely legit if you are a disciplined car owner.
Because Chery is providing 5 years of free service coverage with the launch, keeping up with authorized maintenance isn't going to cost you a fortune out of the gate. As long as you don't mind staying loyal to the official service network for your routine fluid changes, having a manufacturer guarantee that your engine block is legally protected for up to a decade is a massive security blanket.
At a time when premium 7-seater European options cost double the price, Chery's aggressive strategy makes a lot of sense for families looking to maximize their long-term ownership value.
What do you think?
Would a 1,000,000 km engine warranty be enough to make you switch over from your traditional favorite car brand, or do you prefer lower upfront pricing? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
