The Malaysia Championship Series (MCS) 2022 Season Finale concluded last weekend at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) with champions crowned across all of its competition classes – Touring Production (TP), Malaysian Touring Car (MTC), Stock Production 1 (SP1) and Stock Production 2 (SP2).

Raceday on Sunday got underway with a challenging twist stemming from rain showers in the morning. This made things tougher for all drivers competing, prompting many to make tough calls and decisions with their race strategies. A total of 44 cars lined up the grid to race, which was also broadcasted and streamed live online via SIC’s Official Facebook page.

In the TP class, it was the Maxtune Garage team who reaped in glory as driver Mohd Yuszaidi clinched the overall winner's title. Yuszaidi had finished the Sunday’s 54-lap race in second place, amassing a total of 91 points and the title of class champion.

Sunday’s TP race was won by drivers Ahmad Akid and Indonesian co-driver Fitra Eri, where asl the R Engineering HMRT pairing of H.M. Tauhid Anwar and Lai Wee Sing took third place. The latter third place winners also stood as first runner up in the championship standings with 77 points, whilst Jonathan Xie placed third overall with 66 points.

Moving on to the MTC category, Sunday saw the class’ 300KM endurance concluded with the pairing of Mitchell Cheah and Brendan Paul Anthony from the HIREV DREAM CHASER outfit crowned as class champions.

Both Mitchell and Brendan edged ahead of Tedco Racing duo Mark Darwin and Mah Siew Chean who placed second overall with 97 points, as well as Wing Hin Motorsports’ Wong Yew Choong and Ng Khai Ee who ranks third overall with 70 points.

In the SP1 category, history was made as the class’ youngest ever driver, 16-year-old Putera Adam, was crowned champion. The R Engineering HMRT driver finished Sunday’s SP1 race in third place, which was enough to see him score a season’s total of 102 championship points and take the crown.

Winning Sunday’s SP1 race were the 23 Motors pairing of Al Farouk and Baron Sim who also ranked as runners up in the overall standings. Coming in second place behind the duo on Sunday were Rworks drivers Mokoto Fujiwara and Masaya Kono who also marked their debut appearance during the season finale weekend.

Last but certainly not least, the SP2 category saw its 2022 title battle siding with overall champions Ian Wong and Keifli Othman from DW Motorsports.  Despite missing out on a podium finish, the duo had amassed 71 points in total, thus allowing them to capture the champion’s crown.

Sunday’s action-packed SP2 300KM race was won by drivers Hafiz Bachok and Mohanjit Singh. Coming in second place just behind them were while Shazull Hisham and Mohd Syahrizal from Empire M Racing, followed by Imran Wafi and Najiy Ayyad from DNT Tune in third, with the duo also placing third in the championship with 62 points scored. Driver Aiyub Alamghir finished as runner up with 62 points.

Organised by SIC, MCS 2022 is also supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia (KBS) with the sanctioning of Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM). This year, the series welcomed Yokohama and Fire Fighter as its official partners. Whilst the former served as the series’ official tyre, the latter local fire-fighting solutions brand supplied over 1,000 units of its fire extinguishers around the 5.543km circuit.
