Regarded as the highest accolade in the Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) industry, the International Van Of The Year 2023 title was recently given to Volkswagen’s ID. Buzz Cargo.

It was presented at the IAA Transport exhibition in Hanover, Germany, and outstandingly, the ID.Buzz Cargo van has received this great award despite it being officially launched.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ (VWCV) chief operating officer, Carsten Intra, remarked, “We are honoured and proud to receive this award for the ID. Buzz Cargo. A big thank you to the IVOTY jury and to all at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles who have contributed to produce the ID. Buzz Cargo, the best van in its class.”

The award-winning van’s overall futuristic design is a reminiscence of Volkswagen’s 1950s Transporter T1 van, or famously known as the Kombi.

Fully-electric, it uses a 150-KW electric motor fitted between the rear wheels, which has a driving range of 424 KM (WLTP), and can be charged from 5% to 80% in just 30 minutes.

Inside its cabin, there are two to three seats in front, and in the back, it sports a cargo load capacity of 650 KG that has a load volume of 3,900-litres.

Last but not least, it also features advanced technologies, such as over-the-air software updates, intelligent driving assistance and information systems, and more.

That said, the award was presented by IVOTY’s chairman, Jarlath Sweeney, on behalf of 24 international commercial vehicle journalists who were part of the IVOTY jury.

Sweeney concluded, "It's rare that a new van concept appears and manages to attract the attention of many in the market. Congratulations to the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle development team for creating this unique vehicle.”
