It is not denying that SEMA has always been one of the most popular grounds where automotive manufacturers and performance equipment supplies showcase their best to for the general public approval. SEMA 2022, would not be any different. One of the vehicles the performance enthusiasts are eyeing to see would be the all-electric GR86 from Scalar Performance which was developed in cooperation with Hypercraft and Ettractive, who are two of the leading North America electric vehicle (EV) systems developers. This comes months after Toyota confirmed that there would not be any electrified GR models until 2030

This race car which would be displayed inside the growingly popular SEMA Electrified section would be unveiled on the 1st November. Scalar Performance co-founder, tech entrepreneur and an amateur racer, Brian Bourne is ecstatic for the launch of this Gen1 GR86 which had taken months of research, development and engineering leading to its inception.

According to Brian, “This first generation club level electric race car is the stepping stone for all the different technologies Scalar Performance is developing and bringing for the first time to the club sport amateur racing level. We are working closely with thought leading organisations such as National Auto Sport Association (NASA) to ensure we develop motorsport technology that can lead the evolution of amateur club sport racing”.

One of the co-development partner, Hypercraft’s founder and CEO, Jake Hawsworth goes on to add, “Working with Scalar Performance and Ettractive to develop this bespoke, innovative, and extremely high performance electric powertrain – all while keeping safety a top priority – was the kind of challenge that we at Hypercraft live for. We’re extremely excited to showcase the final product.”

While Ettractive Inc. Chief Technology Officer and co-founder Pat Troy shared that the challenge faced in designing for the rigours and performance demands of motorsport had forced a higher level of  organisation amongst its engineers. He added further that, “The extensive bespoke integration we have completed on this race car makes it one of a kind.”

Now, although for now there has been not much details released with regards to the GR86 EV race cars specifications, we are able to know that the bare minimum the GT86 EV would push out is 302HP with a single motor setup based on products offered for motorsports applications from the company.

Performance motor and battery options offered by Hypercraft

With such anticipated base performance figures we can now wonder why Scalar Performance is so enthusiastic  on their upcoming offering to the world of performance EV.
