An electric vehicle (EV) with an affordable price seems too good to be true. Well, not for Tata Motors’ newly launched hot-hatch, the Tiago.

The Indian-based carmaker has priced it from INR 849,000 (MYR 48,315) to INR 1.179 million (MYR 67,095), and it comes in four variants, XE, XT, XZ+ and XZ+ Tech Lux.

Adequately built, variants with a medium-range battery, the XE and XT, have the energy capacity of 19.2-kWh, which offers a driving range of 250 Km (MIDC).

These variants provide a 60 Hp / 110 Nm of output to the electric motor, giving the car the ability to reach 0 to 60 Km/h in 6.2 seconds.

Whereas, variants with a 24-kWh long-range battery the XT, XZ+ and XZ Tech Lux, channels a higher output at 74 Hp / 114 Nm, and dashes from 0 to 60 Km/h in 5.7 seconds.

A CCS2 charging port and a 15A portable charger comes with the EV. With them, the medium-range battery can be fully charged in 6.9 hours and the long-range in 8.7 hours.

For faster charging, the medium-range battery can be charged using a 3.3-kW AC charger in 5.1 hours or with a 7.2-kW AC in 2.6 hours. Long-range is 6.4 hours and 3.6 hours respectively.

Of course, the fastest time to charge an EV can be achieved by using a DC charger, and according to Tata, the time required to charge the Tiago from 0 to 80% is only 57 minutes.
