All-electric 2023 MINI Cooper SE Cabriolet Debuts As A Limited-run Special

After initially presented as a one-off concept, the MINI Cooper SE Cabriolet has now transitioned into a production reality, albeit as a limited-run special. Unveiled this week, just 999 units of the 2023 MINI Cooper SE Cabriolet will be produced, all primarily directed for markets within Europe.

The move from one-off concept to limited production stemmed from “overwhelming positive feedback” the one-off concept garnered, according to MINI.

This production version of said one-off concept is based on the Cooper SE Hardtop (MINI Electric to us). It harnesses the same single front-mounted electric motor setup rated at 184 HP (135 kW) and 270 NM to drive the front wheels.

Said setup sees the century sprint despatched in 7.3 seconds. Range is also similar to the hard-top, with a single full-charge granting up to 201 KM (WLTP).

In terms of appearance, this drop-top offshoot rolls on the same distinct 17-inch Electric Power Spoke wheels seen in the hard-top model. Exterior colour options include Enigmatic Black or White Silver, with bronze trims and electric-specific piano black-finished badges provide some much-needed contrast.

On board, the cabin sports heated sport seats upholstered in leather, with the latter treatment also present in the steering wheel too. Piano black plus dashes of yellow-hued trims provides contrast here whereas key tech present includes the brand’s eDrive system that sports a heads-up display (HUD).

Aptly, the convertible’s key USP here is its retractable soft-top which can retract and deploy at speeds of up to 30 KM/H. In turn, feature allows this electrified hot-hatch to deliver that all-important wind-in-hair driving thrills.

Given the model’s exclusivity for the European market, it seems highly unlikely that we’ll see it make landfall officially through BMW Group Malaysia. The firm has offered the combustion-powered iterations of the MINI Convertible prior, albeit in limited numbers too.
