Aston Martin New Line-Up Will Include An EV Model, Says its Chairman

Renowned sportscar marque Aston Martin is planning to refresh its line-up this upcoming summer, with more detailed information will be unveiled during a conference with investors later this year. According to the marque’s chairman Lawrence Stroll, this refreshed line-up will include a new EV model, also due to be announced this summer.

This revelation has been confirmed by Stroll in an earnings call with investors earlier this week, where several ongoing models such as the Vantage and the DBS are all due for a mid-life update.

"You will see the cars this summer that are going to take us through our combustion story, our hybrid story, and take us through our plans for electrification," Stroll said.

Currently, the DB11 is the oldest model available in the AM’s fleet, as the sporty grand tourer originally made its global debut back in 2016. As for now, there’s no indication whether Aston Martin will facelift said model, or rightly just announce its successor.

Prior to Stroll’s reign as the firm’s chairman, Aston Martin already had a couple of EV projects under its belt, with the Rapide E and Lagonda subsequently cancelled and shelved following the takeover. Instead of that, the marque shifted its focus and began production of two other EV models, a sportscar, as well as an SUV at their Gaydon plant.

Aside from that, nothing much has been revealed about the upcoming Aston Martin EV, with the word around the campfire suggesting that there might be more than one EV model to be announced later this summer.

From the business perspective, Aston Martin has recorded promising figures last year, with the firm achieving a quarterly operating profit of about £6.6 million (RM) in the last three months. This is due to the popularity of the marque’s flagship SUV, the DBX, which was also their best-selling model last year.

In terms of production, the firm projects that their Gaydon plant will be able to produce more than 7,000 units this year – based on last year’s total delivery output of 6,400 vehicles globally.
