Chery introduced its iCar 03, an all-electric SUV with a robust and distinctive design at the 2023 Chengdu Auto Show. This marked the first public unveiling of its interior. Anticipated deliveries are scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of this year, with an approximate price of 150,000 yuan (RM95,000). The iCar is Chery's recently launched brand for new energy vehicles, specifically aimed at appealing to the younger generation, and the 03 kicks off the offerings.

The vehicle sports an overall square shape, measuring 4406 in length, 1910 width, 1715mm height and a wheelbase of 2715mm. It features a 26-degree approach angle and a 29-degree departure angle. The front end stands out with its striking vertical headlight cluster, while the 'i' logo takes a prominent position at the centre of the enclosed grille. Moving to the side, the roof has been given a sleek black finish, and it retains the popular pop-out door handles.

At the rear, an external square storage compartment is noticeable, though its primary purpose is to accommodate a spare wheel. The taillights follow a vertical layout, and the tailgate opens from the left side.

According to previously released information from the Chinese MIIT, the Chery iCar 03 is equipped with an electronically controlled four-wheel drive system, driven by a 135 kW motor and powered by an LFP battery from CATL. Chery claims that the vehicle may achieve a pure electric cruising range of up to 500KM. Notably, the car features integrated solar panels on both the front and roof to capture additional electrical energy, further extending its cruising range.

Inside, the symmetrical interior showcases a sizable floating central control screen, a three-spoke flat-bottom multifunction steering wheel, wrapped in leather material, and a rectangular LCD instrument panel. Below the central control screen, you'll find the air-conditioning outlets. Specific dimensions of these components have not been disclosed at this time. Furthermore, the vehicle offers advanced level 2+ driving assistance features.

Chery also displayed a customised version of the iCar 03 with a retro-inspired look. The closed front grille has been replaced by a heavily decorated vertical chrome strip grille with the 'i' trademark clearly displayed in the centre. A decorative strip has been added to the sides, and the car rides on wheels with multi-spoke rims. A roof luggage rack has been added, and the rear external storage compartment has been enlarged. However, we at CariCarz believe that plain black or brown interior leather upholstery would have been better compared to the seasoned retro leather in the customised model.
