The Skyworth Skyhome is revealed as the latest luxury EV saloon by Chinese electronics giant Skywell

Just when we thought the Chinese EV market was already saturated with tons of EV saloons coming in recent years, it turns out the market is big enough to accommodate yet another contender that was officially revealed this week. Say hello to Skywell’s Skyworth Skyhome – a luxury EV saloon made by one of China’s biggest electronics firms.

Tongue-twister names aside, the Skyhome presented here is not a final production version, with the marque claiming that this concept shares up to 90% similarities with its final production twin.

Regardless of that, the Skyhome is still a pretty nice car to look at, featuring the typical sleek EV saloon body style we’ve seen on many of its rivals of late. Up front, the Skyhome gets a flowing front fascia featuring full-width LED DRLs and a sleek LED headlight design. Aside from its clean grill-less front look, the Skyhome comes with a wide lower air intake.

Digital side mirror cameras and frameless doors with flushed door handles are both present on the Skyhome EV saloon

From the side, you’ll notice that the Skyhome sports this fastback-style saloon shape, with its sleek and sporty roofline extended all the way to the tailgate. Also typical of most modern EV saloons is the presence of both digital side mirror cameras and flushed door handles. At the back, this fastback EV sedan’s tailgate is donned with a full-width LED taillight bar with unique pixelated light segments scattered below it.

The Skyhome's unqiue B-pilliar-less design garners it with an expansive side opening

Moreover, the Skyhome gets a coach-style opening for its rear doors, which is a rather rare sight to see, even for luxury sedans. When all of its four doors have been opened, the Skyhome offers very wide and expansive openings to the cabin, thanks to its unique B-pillar-less design.

The two rear seats of the Skyhome can be fully-reclined, while boasting full-body massage function

Speaking of cabins, the Skyhome’s interior is equipped with tonnes of tech equipment and comfort amenities that Skyworth hopes will set it apart from other EV saloons out there. For starters, this EV fastback saloon comes in a four-seat configuration, allowing the second row to be fitted with individual Captain-style seats that can be fully-reclined, plus a full-body massage function.

Impressively, rear passengers also get a large screen that slides down from the ceiling, plus two additional infotainment screens on the rear part of the front seats’ headrest. Aside from the luxury bedroom and theatre, the Skyhome’s cabin can also be transformed into a posh dining room, thanks to the tray tables mounted on the back part of the front seats, as well as a built-in refrigerator in the rear of the central console.

The screen count doesn’t end there, as the Skyhome also gets a curved triple display layout crowning above the front dash, with one unit reserved for the digital instrument cluster for drivers, the centre one serving as the car’s main infotainment unit, and the third and last one for the front passengers. Topping-off the Skyhome’s cabin equipment list are the yoke-style steering wheel for drivers, a complex ambient lighting system, a slew of premium upholstery materials, as well as a full panoramic glass roof.

Skyworth has revealed very few details regarding the powertrain specs of the Skyhome EV saloon for now. The Chinese tech firm will reportedly offer this EV saloon in both two- and all-wheel drive (AWD) versions. The latter version is reportedly reserved for the flagship variant, with its total system output of 617 HP (460 kW) allowing the car to blast from nought to 100 KM/H in just 3.5 seconds. Additionally, the Skyhome is also equipped with both air suspension and rear-axle steering systems, promising a comfortable ride without compromising on drive dynamics.

The final production version of the Skyworth Skyhome will be revealed closer to its 2024 market entry

Set to enter its production phase later in Q1 2024, the all-new Skyworth Skyhome EV saloon is set to go on sale some time later next year, with prices ranging from CNY 220,000 to CNY 250,000 (RM144,087 to RM163,736). With this brand relatively unheard of outside the Great Wall nation, it is very unlikely that we’ll ever see this luxury EV saloon coming into other international markets.
