Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook announced that the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project has surpassed 56% of its progress as of November, marking a significant milestone.
This development is in line with the project's completion schedule, which calls for the Gombak Integrated Terminal to be completed by December 2026, and the location of Kota Bharu in Kelantan. By January 2027, operational readiness is expected to be achieved.

Minister Loke stressed the project's transition into a new construction phase, involving flyover beam installations, train station, and depot constructions, highlighting this year as the peak construction phase.

According to The Star, the minister also emphasizes that in order to facilitate passenger and cargo train operations, future stages will concentrate on electrification, signaling, and telecommunication system installations. 03-page-3-chung_2257706_20220325074846-(1).jpg

When it's completed, residents of Kuantan will only need to travel 1.5 hours to get to Kuala Lumpur instead of the three hours it takes now by road. Minister Loke highlighted that 23,000 laborers were involved in 1,900 construction sites, with drill and blast techniques being used to excavate 26 tunnels.

One of the major turning points will be the 16.39 km Genting twin tunnel, which is currently under construction and should be finished in the second quarter of 2025. More than 60km of flyover beams have been installed over the 145km ECRL flyover. The project's overall goal is to improve transportation infrastructure in Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, and Selangor by building 20 stations.
