New Toyota Urban SUV concept previews future affordable B-segment EV SUV for Europe

Toyota has a pretty big plan to expand its electromobility venture in the European market. In-line with its new battery technology roadmap, the Japanese automaker is planning to introduce no more than five new EVs for the Old Continent, including a new small, affordable EV crossover based on this newly-unveiled Toyota Urban SUV concept.

Positioned as a B-segment EV SUV, the Urban SUV measures 4,300 MM long, 1,820 MM wide, and 1,620 MM tall. Interestingly, this EV concept bears a striking resemblance to the Suzuki eVX concept, which was borne out of Toyota’s partnership with Suzuki, albeit with some Toyota design cues like the C-shaped headlight design. Aside from that, this five-door EV SUV comes with pillar-mounted handles for the rear doors, giving it a sporty three-door coupe look.

Visuals aside, we’ve been told that the Urban SUV concept will underpin Toyota’s new modular EV platform based on the e-TNGA architecture. While Toyota didn’t reveal much on this improved EV platform, the Japanese automaker did confirm the Urban SUV will get two battery options, with the larger one boasting up to 400 KM of maximum EV range.

The production version of the Urban SUV concept will get both FWD and AWD powertrain options

As for its powertrain, Toyota didn’t mention much about them, except that the Urban SUV will get two options – either a single, front-mounted (FWD) unit or a peppier dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setup. Though its outputs have yet to be revealed, we can somewhat expect them to match the bZ4X’s total system output of 201 HP for the FWD model and 215 HP for the AWD one.

Merely arriving as a concept for now, the Toyota Urban SUV concept is set to be produced as Toyota’s new B-segment EV SUV fighter, set to go against the likes of the Volvo EX30, MINI Countryman EV, and many more. Moreover, Toyota did promise that we’ll get to know more about the final production version of this EV concept later next year, ahead of its planned debut in the European market later in 2025.

Once it arrives, the production version of the Urban SUV concept will spearhead Toyota’s revamped EV lineup in Europe, set to be joined by several other models, including those that are based on the Compact Crossover and Sport Crossover. In total, Toyota is slated to have six EV models on sale in the Old Continent by 2026, with the only model currently on sale being the Toyota bZ4X.
