BYD Sime Darby Motors took to social media once again earlier today, this time announcing that pre-orders for the upcoming new BYD Seal model will open this week. Said pre-order opens up exclusively online on Jan 19, coinciding with the launch of the revamped BYD Malaysia website too.

The Malaysian-bound version of the BYD Seal is expected to largely mirror what’s already offered in neighbouring markets such as Thailand and Singapore. Three variants in total are expected – Dynamic Standard Range, Premium Extended Range, and Performance AWD.

Malaysians can pre-book the BYD Seal EV online starting this week from Jan 19. Three variants are also expected, though prices remain undisclosed for now.

For reference, the Thai-spec base BYD Seal Dynamic RWD harnesses a 61.4 kWh LFP ‘Blade’ battery pack that juices a rear-mounted motor. The Premium RWD variant adopts a larger 82.5 kWh-sized version of said LFP ‘Blade’ battery pack, promising up to 650 KM in range too (NEDC).

The range-topping AWD Performance variant for the Thai market, on the other hand, also uses the same 82.5 kWh battery pack as the mid-specced Premium RWD mentioned. However, it’s dual-motor setup promises peppier performance thanks to its 530 HP and 670 NM outputs.

Both 61.4 kWh and 82.5 kWh battery options are expected, as are single- and dual-motor choices. A maximum range of 650 KM (NEDC) is being touted, as well as peppy outputs as high as 530 HP and 670 NM.

All versions will see their batteries accepting 7 kW AC, as well as 110 kW (Dynamic RWD) and 150 kW (Premium RWD and AWD Performance) DC rapid-charging inputs. The latter even promises 30-80% recharges in just 37 minutes.

Prices remain undisclosed for now, though insiders have hinted it will be competitive against rivals like the Tesla Model 3. As for a launch date, your guess is as good as ours. Nevertheless, insiders have also hinted to us at CariCarz.com that this is slated for sometime soon – likely within this (Q1) or the next quarter (Q2).
