We’ve seen it as a camouflaged prototype, and more recently in design sketch form, but now the covers are off. This is the all-new and now all-electric (EV) second-generation Porsche Macan luxury performance compact crossover SUV.

The model enjoyed a glitzy premier just across the causeway during the Singapore Art Week 2024. Present at the launch were the Stuttgart-based marque’s top-level executives led by its CEO Oliver Blume, as well as Style Porsche vice president Michael Mauer.

At launch, the second-gen and now all-electric Macan comes in two guises - Macan 4 and Macan Turbo.

It's also worth noting that the new all-electric second-gen Macan has grown in size too - it's slightly larger now.

It appears Porsche elected to retain the simple Macan nameplate without any special extension or additional suffixes as some EVs typically do. Two variants were shown, those being the base Macan 4, followed by a higher-end and peppier Macan Turbo. More variants are expected to debut later on.

As noted, the second-gen Macan is the first all-new Porsche model to underpin the marque’s new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) chassis jointly developed with Audi. It features an 800-volt EV architecture, as well as a sizeable 100 kWh (95 kWh useable) lithium-ion battery pack. The new platform also explains the Macan’s growth in size – it’s slightly larger than before now.

The battery can be charged via AC charging input up to 11 kW, or up to 270 kW via rapid DC-charging input. The latter method sees the Macan able to perform 10-80% recharges in just 21 minutes, according to Porsche. As for range, Porsche touts up to 613 KM (WLTP) for the Macan 4, and up to 591 KM (WLTP) for the Macan Turbo.

Depending on variant, claimed WLTP ranges stand between 591 KM and 613 KM. Besides 22 kW AC, the Macan's 100 kWh battery also accepts up to 270 kW DC rapid charging, the latter enabling 10-80% recharges in 21 minutes.

All this gets dressed in an all-new yet distinct and purposeful design that’s also aerodynamically efficient – Porsche touts a low drag coefficient (Cd) figure of just 0.25. Signature traits include Taycan-esque Matrix LED headlights, slim LED rear taillight bar running across the entire tailgate, whilst the lower and steeper coupe-like roofline is new, as is a retractable rear spoiler.

On to powertrains and, as expected, both the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo feature dual-motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) setups, albeit with differing outputs. With Overboost activated, the Macan 4 delivers 402 HP and 650 NM, whilst the Macan Turbo shells out higher figures of 630 HP and a whopping 1,130 NM.

As a result, the Macan 4 despatches 0-100 KM/H in just 5.2 seconds before hitting a claimed V-Max of 220 KM/H. The Macan Turbo, on the other hand, does the same century sprint in a quicker 3.3 seconds – faster than the 911 GT3! – and hit a higher V-Max of 260 KM/H instead. Take note that these are achieved in Overboost mode.

The Macan Turbo stands a the peppiest of the lot with 630 HP and 1,130 NM. This sees it able to out-accelerate a 911 GT3 as it does 0-100 KM/H in just 3.3 seconds!

The Macan Turbo also benefits with PTV Plus that enables the rear motor to act like a locked differential. Present in both are four-wheel-steering, air ride suspension, and Porsche's new two-valve suspension hardware.

Both are primed with the Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) rear differential, but the Macan Turbo gets a more sophisticated PTV Plus suite that enables the rear motor to act as a locked differential. Both also get four-wheel steering – a first for the Macan – that sees the rear tyres turn up to 5-degrees in either direction to enhance high-speed stability or low-speed cornering.

Additionally, both the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo also come standard equipped with air ride suspension. Present at each corner too is Porsche’s latest two-valve suspension hardware. This is similar to that primed in the latest generation Cayenne SUV model, and it allows for tuning of both compression and rebound rates.

Leading new tech primed on board include a trio of digital displays plus an AR HUD.

As previously reported, the new Macan also packs a host of new tech on board. Things like the new digital displays plus an advanced new Augmented Reality (AR) heads-up display (HUD) have been detailed in this prior report of ours. Beyond which, it’s also worth noting the increased cargo capacity thanks to the larger boot capacity of up to 540 litres, plus a new 84-litre ‘frunk’.

Set to enter production and enter markets worldwide by the second half of this year, we can also expect Porsche Malaysia (Sime Darby Auto Performance - SDAP) to open the order books for the new and all-electric Macan locally in an equally rapid timeline too.

Both the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo are expected to go on sale worldwide starting in the second half of this year.

No word on price yet, but the tax incentives on fully imported (CBU) EVs currently in place should see it command tempting figures. For reference, the current Macan is priced between RM469,000 and RM895,000 through SDAP.

That essentially the all-new and all-electric second-gen Porsche Macan in a nutshell. What do you folks reckon then? Are you digging Porsche’s new ‘baby’ EV SUV? As usual, share your take in the comments below, as well as our social media pages…
