The Malaysia Autoshow 2024 (MAS 2024) is right around the corner, and more automakers have now started to tease their upcoming products ahead of the motor show debut.

It appears that Perodua is poised to preview its new hybrid model at the upcoming MAS 2024.

One of the brands set to present at MAEPS Serdang later this month is Perodua, where the national automaker quietly dropped some hints regarding its showcase lineup. As suggested by this official promotion image published via Perodua’s official Facebook page, it seems like P2 might showcase its new hybrid model at the motor show.

Shown by the mysterious silhouette of a model, it appears that this hatch model boasts some kind of electrified powertrain setup, featuring an internal combustion engine (ICE) at the front while harnessing a rather sizable battery pack under its belly. At first glance, you’ll immediately notice that this is not the same hybrid setup used on the special Perodua Ativa hybrid, with said unnamed model featuring a larger battery setup than the Ativa’s.

But then again, the hybrid powertrain laid out inside this model silhouette is also quite vague for us to identify, so much so that it appears to be quite generic rather than being model-specific.

The upcoming Perodua D66B (left) might use the same HEV setup as the DNGA-based Toyota Yaris Cross HEV (right).

This circumstance is not too far-fetched, since it is no secret that Perodua is currently developing its own hybrid model in the form of the D66B project, possibly using the DNGA-based Toyota Yaris Cross hybrid as its basis. Apart from hybrids, the second national automaker is also in the midst of developing its first-ever battery EV (BEV) model, which is touted for a 2025 debut.

Perodua EMO EV Concept previewed at last year's Malaysia Autoshow

Should this be true, then this is not the first time P2 has displayed its upcoming EV model at the motor show, with the automaker previously showcasing the EMO concept at last year’s Malaysia Autoshow. Featuring a hatchback body style, this is perhaps the closest we can get to the teased electrified model shown in said promotional image.

Besides the mysterious electrified model, Perodua’s promotional image also includes a familiar model draped in shadow. Upon closer inspection, you’ll notice that the silhouette matches that of the Aruz MPV crossover.

While its production was previously reported to have ceased to make way for the D66B project, there’s a faint chance that we might see an updated version of the Aruz model. In case you missed it, the Aruz’s Daihatsu-badged twin, known as the Daihatsu Terios, recently got a facelift in the neighbouring Indonesian market, so there might be a small possibility of a facelifted Aruz making its debut at the motor show.

But then again, all of these are mere speculations and conjectures, as Perodua has yet to put up any response or follow-up to its promotional image. For anything more solid, the best we can do is wait for the Malaysia Autoshow 2024 to raise its curtain, which is set to take place from May 22 to 26, taking place at MAEPS in Serdang, Selangor.
