New to VW's ID.7 range is the GTX-badged fastback saloon variant. It now sits alongside its long-roofed Tourer twin as the range-topper for the nameplate.

Volkswagen expanded its ID.7 model range further earlier today as it announces a new addition. Aptly, the new Volkswagen ID.7 GTX pictured is the GTX-badged performance version of the ID.7 EV fastback saloon, and it slots alongside the ID.7 GTX Tourer estate revealed prior.

Together with its long-roofed Tourer twin, the ID.7 GTX stands as the peppiest flavour of the all-electric saloon and estate model from VW. Like the Tourer, this fastback sports a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup rated at 335 HP. Altogether, this enables the ID.7 GTX to despatch 0-100 KM/H in just 5.4 seconds.

Said dual motors are juiced by the same 86 kWh lithium-ion battery pack as primed in in the Tourer, which supports up to 200 kW DC charging input that grants 10-80% re-charges in 26 minutes. Crucially, in this lighter  fastback, there’s more range with each full charge compared to the Tourer version – 595 KM versus 585 KM respectively (both WLTP-rated).

In GTX trim, the ID.7 fastback also sports a number of sporty aesthetic tweaks and additions. Highlights include a sharper new front bumper with diamond-style mesh insert, and ‘arrowhead’-shaped LED DRLs. Other key bits include VW’s signature IQ.Light LED Matrix headlights, lit-up VW emblems, as well as distinct 20-inch ‘Skagen’ alloy wheels.

On board, the GTX treatment sees the ID.7’s cabin rock heated seats dressed in red contrast top-stitching plus perforated ‘GTX’ lettering on the backrests. Special here too is the GTX-specific steering wheel as it features a red centre-line stitch on top of red contrast pipe-stitching.

Lastly, VW also confirmed that the ID.7 Pro S variants now benefit with a larger new 86kWh battery pack – the same as the GTX. This is a bump up from the Pro variant’s 77 kWh unit, thus granting up to 709 KM (fastback) and 690 KM (Tourer) of WLTP-rated range.
