XPeng has revealed at the Chengdu Auto Show 2024 that its recently launched entry-level EV sedan, the Mona M03, introduced to capture a broader segment of the EV market, had received over 30,000 since the order books opened on August 27. The first few units were handed over to buyers by XPeng's founder and CEO, He Xiaopeng himself.

Priced from CNY 119,800 (approximately RM73,000), the Mona M03 is positioned as an affordable yet tech-laden EV, targeting younger consumers who seek high-tech features without breaking the bank. The more premium variant, the M03 Max, will introduce an advanced driving assistance system called XNGP, which is expected to be available in Q1 2025.

A key highlight of the Mona M03 is its segment-leading aerodynamics, with a drag coefficient of just 0.194cd, resulting in a driving range of up to 620 KM (CLTC), powered by a small 62.2 kWh LFP battery unit. The Mona M03 also features an active air intake grille to further reduce drag, enhancing its efficiency and range.

Although details on AC and DC charging speeds have yet to be revealed, XPeng claims that the Mona M03 boasts an energy efficiency of 11.5 kWh per 100KM and can achieve a fast charging range of 200 KM in just 15 minutes.

Built on the XPeng Fuyao architecture, the Mona M03 measures 4,780 MM in length, 1,896 MM in width, and 1,445 MM in height, with a wheelbase of 2,815 MM. The heaviest configuration weighs in at just 1,739 KG.

Inside, the Mona M03 offers a modern driving experience with a 15.6-inch central display and an optional steering wheel-mounted display. The vehicle is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, enabling features like 360-degree panoramic imaging and 3D map rendering.

Buyers can choose between two motor output options, a 140 kW (188 HP) or 160 kW (215 HP) unit, and between two battery sizes, 51.8 kWh or 62.2 kWh. Both variants deliver a top speed of 155 km/h.

Looking ahead, XPeng plans to introduce its latest innovation, the Eagle Vision system, in the M03 Max. This advanced driving assistance system, which operates without lidar, will provide robust smart driving capabilities and is set to be a key feature in XPeng’s future models.

As for sales targets, XPeng aims to sell 10,000 units of the Mona M03 monthly, with the first deliveries scheduled for September. The company’s performance has been mixed so far in 2024, with total vehicle sales from January to July reaching 63,000—falling short of its annual target. However, with the Mona M03's launch, XPeng expects a significant boost in sales, further strengthening its market position.
