Chery has filed a recall with China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) involving selected production units of two SUV models in the Chinese market due to a potential safety defect.

Registered under recall number S2026M0007V on January 23, 2026, the recall affects 1,108 units of the Chery Tansuo 06 and Tiggo 7 1.6T manufactured between April 1 and Dec 8, 2025, according to CarNewsChina.

The issue stems from the engine electronic control unit (ECU) branch wiring harness, where some vehicles may have been assembled without the harness clip being properly secured. Over time, this could lead to wiring abrasion and, in extreme cases, engine stalling while driving, posing a potential safety risk.

The Tansuo 06 is marketed overseas as the Jaecoo J7, while the Tiggo 7 1.6T in China is offered in variants such as the Tiggo 7 Sport and Tiggo 7 Plus. Both models are powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing approximately 194 hp and 290 Nm, paired with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission.

Chery said affected vehicles in China will undergo a free inspection of the ECU wiring harness. Any improperly installed or damaged components will be repaired or replaced at no cost. Owners will be notified via authorised dealers through registered mail, phone calls or text messages, and recall information is also available via the official SAMR recall website.

Malaysia-Spec Vehicles Not Affected

When contacted, Chery Malaysia confirmed that the recall applies exclusively to China-market vehicles and does not involve Malaysian models.

The company said vehicles sold in Malaysia are locally assembled (CKD) and are subject to stringent production quality controls, including comprehensive pre-delivery inspection (PDI) procedures, before being handed over to customers.

As such, Chery Malaysia emphasised that all locally assembled vehicles meet local regulatory and quality standards, and customers in Malaysia are not affected by the recall.

In Malaysia, the Chery Tiggo 7 was launched in 2024 at RM123,800, with the Chery Super Hybrid variant joining the lineup in 2025 at RM129,800. The Jaecoo J7 is currently priced from RM138,800. Both models are backed by a seven-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty, offering added peace of mind to local buyers.
