New TAILG EBIXON e-Bikes Launched – up to 200 KM range, priced from RM9,000

The local electric motorcycles (or e-bikes) market space grew a little this week following the introduction of the TAILG EBIXON brand and its two models – the BOLD and TORQ. Both models were introduced locally by Ni Hsin EV Tech Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of the Ni Hsin Group Berhad.
Now open for pre-orders, both the BOLD and TORQ are set apart by their intended consumers, the former touted towards regular commuters and latter aimed squarely for commercial use. Originating from China, both models are assembled locally (CKD) by Ni Hsin EV Tech Sdn Bhd in Seri Kembangan, Selangor.

Notably, both the BOLD and TORQ models share several similarities, namely the removable and swappable lithium battery packs. For the BOLD, this commuter is primed with a twin 22 AH ( 3.17 kWh) lithium battery pack whilst the TORQ commercial model harnesses a larger twin 50 AH (7.2 kWh) pack instead.
Both batteries can be recharged via a dedicated outboard DC charger unit with a claimed charging rate of 72 Volts. Full charges should take anywhere between 2 to 8 hours.

In the BOLD, said commuter model is primed with a hub-mouted electric motor rated at 1.5 kW and 35 NM. This, in turn, allows the BOLD, which has a claimed weight of 91 KG, a maximum travel range of 120 KM at a limited top speed of 70 KM/H.

The TORQ commercial model, on the other hand, benefits with a peppier 5 kW hub-mounted motor with 74 NM instead. Listed at a claimed 85 KG with a maximum payload of 233 KG, this model boasts a higher maximum travel range of 200 KM at a governed higher governed top speed of 90 KM/H.
Electric powertrains aside, both models also sport different design and ergonomics to meet their respective intended purposes – two-up saddle in the BOLD and strict single-seater in the TORQ, which also comes with a rear cargo rack plus a nifty reverse gear feature.
Common features in both models include a built-in USB charging port, digital meter panel, LED lighting, telescopic front forks with dual rear shocks suspension hardware, tubeless tyres shod on alloy wheels (TORQ: 12-inch all around, BOLD: 13-inch front and 12-inch rear), three-level selectable ‘Speed Gear’, as well as all-round disc brakes plus side-stand sensors to disengage the motor.

Available in three colour choices, the TAILG EBIXON BOLD commuter model is set to retail with a basic price of RM9,000. Its commercial twin, the TAILG EBIXON TORQ, on the other hand, will command a higher asking figure of RM14,999 instead. Deliveries of both models are slated to begin circa the first quarter of 2023.
During the official launch of both models held earlier this week, Ni Hsin EV Tech Sdn Bhd stated their aims of selling as much as 15,000 units of the TAILG EBIXON e-bikes throughout the Asia Pacific region over the course of the next three years.
The launch event also saw the firm inking several Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with a number of notable agencies including MIMOS Berhad, Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings Sdn Bhd (PROLINTAS), HAI-O Enterprise Bhd, as well as PT Winn Pratama Indonesia for promotion, marketing, and distribution of these electric motorcycles throughout the region.
