BYD Plans to Open First Showroom in KL, Three More to Come in Early 2023

In conjunction with BYD Atto 3’s Malaysian debut, Sime Darby Beyond Auto (SDBA), BYD’s local distribution arm announced that it will build a network of showrooms around the country as an effort to cope with “the country’s growing appetite for EVs.”

Speaking during the launching event was Andrew Basham, Sime Darby Motors managing director. Basham said this plan is “in-line with our aim to be a leader in EV and with a view towards propelling Malaysia’s EV aspirations, we are excited to embark on this new chapter with BYD.”
“With half a billion Ringgit set to be invested, this will support our aggressive expansion plans for the brand here and reflects our belief in the brand’s universal appeal,” Basham added.

The RM500 million investment plan will see the EV marque rolling out the carpets for its first-ever showroom in Malaysia by mid-Dec 2022, located at TREC KL along Jalan Tun Razak, in the heart of the KL city. Three more showrooms will be opened by the first half of 2023, each located at Ara Damansara, Penang and Johor.
By the end of 2023, SDBA expects to grow its showroom network further, with up to 20 showrooms to be opened across the country. Bulk of BYD’s showrooms will be full-fledged 3S centres, while the rest of it will be satellite showrooms located in small shop lots and retail spaces in malls.
Said numbers are expected to double by the end of 2024, as SDBA and BYD project a total of 40 showrooms to be opened in Malaysia alone.
This ambitious plan is part of BYD’s plan to grow its global presence, while providing an avenue of low-carbon alternatives in the growing Malaysian EV scene.

Recently launched into our local market, the BYD Atto 3 is the brand’s flagship SUV, coming in two variants. The 410 KM-range Standard Range is priced at RM149,800, while the up-specced Extended Range with up to 480 KM travel range is priced at RM167,800.
Both variants are powered by a front-mounted single electric motor rated at 203 HP and 310 NM. In spite of being a five-seater SUV, the Atto 3 can finish a 0-100 KM/H drag in about 7.3 seconds.
