Will Tesla Motors Malaysia Offer The Cybertruck?

It appears certain that the Model 3 and Model Y will be the first on offer by Tesla Motors Malaysia once they've set up completely.
By now, it’s almost certain that once Tesla Motors Malaysia officially sets up shop, the first model it will offer Malaysians will be the Model Y compact crossover and its Model 3 sedan twin. However, a quick glance at other key right-hand-drive (RHD) markets in the region signals that perhaps a third model could be offered.
We’re of course talking about the hyped-up – and perhaps equally maligned – Cybertruck. Recently sighted undergoing extreme climate tests in New Zealand last month, this was perhaps an indication that the American electric vehicle (EV) maker intends to make the Cybertruck a global offering.

Could the Tesla Cybertruck be the third model on offer through Tesla Motors Malaysia when it launches?

Indeed, a quick glance at the official Tesla websites for both Australia and New Zealand, as well as other key regional RHD markets for the brand like Hong Kong and Thailand, all shows dedicated tabs and pages promoting the Cybertruck, though the option to pre-order it isn’t yet available.
Nevertheless, these are significant signs considering Tesla’s recent move in axing RHD versions of its flagship Model S and Model X duo, citing the move driven towards both ramping up production and improving quality effectively.

At the same time, the fact that the Cybertruck is being teased online in the world’s biggest pick-up truck market – Thailand – is a very telling move too. For said Kingdom just north of our border, perhaps it simply make sense for Tesla to offer the Cybertruck there given the Thai people’s affinity for said vehicle type.
Locally, the appetite for pick-up trucks amongst local Malaysians has arguably grown significantly in recent years too. You need not look past just how many variations on the key offerings like the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, Mitsubishi Triton, as well as the Isuzu D-Max – its Mazda-badged BT-50twin included – are on offer.

Tesla touts the Cybertruck to have better utility than a truck with more performance than a sportscar.
We reckon the surge in lifestyle pick-up truck enthusiasts adopting these models stands as a key catalyst to this growth too. Perhaps the surge of EV adoption amongst Malaysians happening in tandem with those adopting pick-up trucks are enough to warrant the Tesla Cybertruck for serious consideration here at least.

Instead of a traditional ladder-frame, the Tesla Cybertruck will also underpin a high-tech stainless steel exoskeleton chassis design as well. (Image: Tesla Motors Thailand website)
To refresh your memory, the Cybertruck is being touted as a full-size pick-up truck constructed upon a stainless steel exoskeleton chassis and brimmed with a tri-motor setup rated at a whopping 805 HP. It also promises up to 800 KM in range on top of better utility than a truck with more performance than a sportscar.
Now we pose these questions to you: would an all-electric, full-sized pick-up truck like the Tesla Cybertruck be a novelty you’d seek? Or do you instead see it as absolutely unnecessary? What would be the right price figure for it to make sense here in Malaysia? As always, hit the comments below with your thoughts…
