[UPDATED] Tesla Motors Malaysia Official Instagram Goes live – A Step Closer To Launch?

The new @teslamotorsmys Instagram page that just went live earlier today.
It appears that the Tesla Motors Malaysia official Instagram page (@teslamotorsmys) has come online earlier today. This perhaps is yet another indicator that the American electric vehicle (EV) maker is now a step closer towards officially launching itself into the Malaysian market.
At the time of writing, the brand new social media page sees just one post uploaded, along with a matching IG Stories posting featuring a veiled silhouette of the Tesla Model Y. Accompanying said post was a simple teaser caption that reads: “Malaysia Stay Tuned”.
Based on said posting, it’s safe to assume that the Model Y compact crossover teased could be the first model officially introduced by the firm into the local market. Somewhat a global best-seller, this was perhaps unsurprising, and we reckon its sedan-flavoured Model 3 sibling will follow suit soon after.
Adding to which are the recent reports that right-hand-drive (RHD) versions of its flagship Model S and Model X duo have been axed worldwide. Simply put, if you wanted a brand new and officially imported RHD Tesla, your only options from this point onwards lie in just these two choices.

Certainly no mistaking that the Model Y is being teased in this first posting, likely indicating it being the first model the firm will officially introduce to Malaysians.

Besides the Model Y compact crossover, we can also likely expect its Model 3 sedan twin to be offered officially too.
Apart from this, there’s little else to gauge from the new page and posts. No specifications were detailed, but it’s likely that Tesla will offer both the Model 3 and Model Y for Malaysia as how it does in Thailand – sole single-motor RWD, as well as two dual-motor AWD (Long Range and Performance) trims.
The setting up of this new social media page, plus the recent walk-in interview recruitment drive, clear signs indeed of the marque’s serious intent of entering the Malaysian market space. The only thing uncertain for now is a tentatively launch date. We’ll have more details as they develop.

UPDATE - 5:00PM [3 JULY 2023]
It seems things are moving rapidly indeed as CariCarz.com has officially received an invitation to attend the official launch ceremony of Tesla Motors Malaysia. The firm external PR contractors have confirmed this is set to take place this month on July 20.We will have more details from said launch. Stay tuned for updates.
