Tesla Motors Malaysia has finally commenced the first delivery of the long-awaited Model Y to customers in Malaysia today.
Almost eight months after making its local debut, Tesla Motors Malaysia has finally commenced first deliveries for the long-awaited Tesla Model Y. While this EV crossover is the first model to be launched by the American EV marque in Malaysia, the Model Y is actually the second model to be delivered by Tesla, following the surprise debut and first delivery of the Model 3 that took place late last year.

Up to 80 units of the Model Y are expected to be delivered to customers on the first day of this delivery campaign.
Taking place at Tesla Malaysia’s HQ in Cyberjaya, a total of 80 Model Ys are scheduled to be handed over to customers on the first day of this delivery campaign. More units of the Model Y are expected to make their way to customers, ending their long wait for this Sino-American EV crossover.

Debuted back in July last year, the Model Y’s arrival in our market also coincided with the official establishment of Tesla Motors Malaysia, with said EV marque being one of the earliest automakers to benefit from the Malaysian government’s lucrative tax-free EV incentives.

Arriving in three guises for our market, the baseline Model Y Standard Range is powered by a 60-kWh battery pack that juices its single, rear-mounted (RWD) motor setup rated at 299 PS and 420 NM, allowing a 0-100 KM/H sprint time of 6.9 seconds. As for its claimed WLTP maximum range, the figure reads at 430 KM.

Moving on to the mid-sec Model Y Long Range, this variant is powered by a more potent dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setup rated at 514 PS and 493 NM, allowing for a faster century sprint time of five seconds. Harnessing a bigger 78.1-kWh battery pack, the Model Y LR boasts the highest maximum EV range amongst the trio at 533 KM (WLTP).

Capping off the Model Y range in Malaysia is the top-specced Performance variant, which harnesses the same dual-motor AWD setup as the LR model, albeit with a higher state-of-tune. Rated at 534 PS and 660 NM, this setup allows for a quicker 0-100 KM/H sprint time of 3.7 seconds and a higher 250 KM/H V-max. This, however, comes at the price of range, as the Performance guise makes do with a claimed WLTP range of just 514 KM, despite using the same battery pack as the LR model.

Excluding options and upgrades, Tesla Motors Malaysia is retailing the base Model Y for RM199,00, the Long Range guise for RM246,000, and the Performance flagship for RM288,000. Said prices include a 4-year or 80,000 KM basic vehicle warranty plus a separate 8-year or 160,000 KM EV battery and drive unit warranty coverage.
