MINI Cooper SE JCW Trim arrives as the newest variant of the next-gen MINI Cooper EV hatch

The next-gen MINI Cooper made its official debut earlier this year, arriving in a sole all-electric form with two variants – Cooper E and Cooper SE. While we’re still waiting for both the ICE and five-door versions to arrive, MINI has revealed a new, sportier variant for its next-gen all-electric hatch, cordially known as the MINI Cooper SE Electric JCW Trim.

Previewed by several spy shots that surfaced online, the MINI Cooper SE JCW Trim features a slew of sporty touches and parts courtesy of the John Cooper Works (JCW) Trim package. This includes a new front grille surround and new MINI logo – both hued in gloss black, new body kit comprising front lip, side skirt and rear faux diffuser, new individual light signatures for its LED headlights, plus a slew of Chili Red-hued finishing and graphics around its exterior.

More importantly, this sporty electric hatch now rides on sportier 18-inch wheels with a 10-spoke design finished in a two-tone hue, as well as a special rear wing with the John Cooper Works emblem placed on both ends.

The JCW Trim treatment continues as we get inside this sporty electric hatch. Key highlights include sportier seats wrapped in synthetic leather upholstery with contrasting red stitches, red-and-black-themed front dash and door panels, and many more. Meanwhile, its rounded central infotainment display now features a new ‘Go-Kart’ mode that changes the interior ambient lighting to red, while the car’s throttle response has been optimised for better driving performance.

Unfortunately, the MINI Cooper SE JCW Trim boasts no performance upgrades, as it gets the same powertrain setup as the standard Cooper SE model

Speaking of performance, the MINI Cooper SE JCW Trim boasts no mechanical upgrades over its donor, the electric MINI Cooper SE. This means that this sporty JCW-badged hatch still gets its motivation from a single electric motor rated at 215 HP and 330 NM, allowing it to propel from nought to 100 KM/H in a decent 6.7 seconds. Juice is provided by a 54.2-kwh battery pack that gives the EV hatch up to 402 KM of WLTP range, with MINI claiming this pack can be juiced from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes.

As of now, MINI has yet to reveal neither the price nor the availability of this new MINI Cooper SE JCW Trim all-electric hatch. With MINI boss Stefanie Wurst describing this new JCW Trim model as an “epitome of efficiency and driving pleasure” that “combines a passion for iconic design, legendary performance, and sustainable mobility,” we can expect it to fetch higher premiums than the standard Cooper SE model.

Aside from this JCW Trim and upcoming ICE-powered versions, MINI has also confirmed that the next-gen MINI Cooper model will also arrive in a five-door configuration. Unfortunately for petrolheads, the new ICE-powered MINI is set to arrive with no manual transmission option, thus making the previous-gen models the last MINI Cooper to officially arrive with a stick-shift option.
