BAuto was recently appointed as the official distributor of XPeng EVs in Malaysia.
In case you missed it, local multi-brand vehicle distributor Bermaz Auto Bhd (BAuto) has been appointed by Chinese EV marque XPeng to be its official distributor for the Malaysian market. With the automotive firm set to helm XPeng in Malaysia, we can expect to see several of the marque’s EVs make their debut in our local market soon.

With BAuto now in the picture, the XPeng G6 EV SUV could be the first model to be debuted by the brand in Malaysia.
One of the models we can expect to be ashore here is the XPeng G6. Often touted as the Tesla Model Y rival in the Chinese market, the G6 is a midsize EV SUV with a sporty coupe crossover body style and sci-fi-inspired design. Key design highlights present here include the split LED headlights, minimalist underbody cladding, flushed door handles, and the full panoramic glass roof that spans over two square metres.

Thanks to its streamlined design and several active aero parts like the rear spoiler, the G6 boasts a drag coefficient of 0.248 Cd, which helps to further bolster its performance.

The Xpeng G6 boasts a typical minimalist cabin design, featuring plenty of space and legroom.
On board, the XPeng G6 boasts a pretty minimalist cabin design that is quite typical of most modern Chinese EVs nowadays. Up front lies a floating infotainment screen measuring 15 inches, plus a slim digital instrument cluster that hides beneath its sleek two-spoke steering wheel. Elsewhere, the two front seats are ventilated and powered, while the car’s healthy 2,890 MM wheelbase allows for a roomy cabin space.

The XPeng G6 underpins the latest SEPA 2.0 EV platform, granting it with an 800-volt battery architecture.
On the mechanical front, the XPeng G6 underpins the marque’s latest SEPA 2.0 EV architecture, which is produced using the aluminum die-casting method for better rigidity with less compromise on weight. Said chassis is also tuned by a team of German engineers, promising a “stirring sporty performance.”

Available in two powertrain options, the baseline G6 employs a single, rear-mounted (RWD) electric motor setup rated at 292 HP (218 kW) and 440 NM, while the range-topping model boasts a peppier dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setup with a total system output of 480 HP (358 kW) and 660 NM.
Battery-wise, the G6 comes with two battery options, namely the smaller 66-kWh LFP unit that garners a maximum CLTC range of 580 KM and the bigger 87.5-kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery that provides a longer CLTC range of up to 755 KM. Both come with an 800-volt battery architecture, the G6 can handle DCFC at a maximum rate of 480 kW.

Debuted at last year's Shanghai Auto Show, the XPeng G6 EV SUV is set to spearhead the marque's venture into several RHD markets, including Malaysia.
According to CarNewsChina, the XPeng G6 EV SUV currently retails for CNY 239,900 (RM156,831) in the Chinese market for the baseline 590 Pro RWD spec, excluding any options such as the XNGP self-driving system and many more. As of now, XPeng is planning to launch the G6 in several right-hand drive (RHD) markets like Hong Kong and the UK, as well as several ASEAN countries like Thailand, Singapore, and even Malaysia.
With BAuto now in the picture as the newly-appointed distributor for XPeng EVs in Malaysia, are you keen to see the sporty XPeng G6 EV go against the likes of the Tesla Model Y and other midsize EV SUVs in our market soon? Or would you rather see BAuto bring in the luxurious XPeng X9 EV MPV first? As always, don’t forget to leave your thoughts in the comments down below…
