Initially identified via Google Lens as a Chery Aiqar eQ7, we looked closer to find it badged as a 2U Chat instead.

Earlier today, we caught sight of an electric vehicle (EV) that’s perhaps not seen in Malaysia previously. We spotted this EV nearby our office in Seri Kembangan whilst on a return trip after completing a photoshoot.

Screengrabs from our Mazda CX-5 2.2D 2WD High tester’s dashcam footage, as well as photos snapped by our resident cameraman who was also on board with us, revealed some interesting details. Initially, Google Lens had identified it as a Chery/Aiqar eQ7.

Have you ever heard of 2U Chat? Neither have we... But we've found some details on the internet.

However, closer inspection of the stills captured by our cameraman shows the EV carried no Chery branding or badges at all. Instead, it was badged as ‘2U Chat’ – a brand we’ve not heard of before. This piqued our curiosity and prompted us to jump into an internet research rabbit hole lasting a few hours.

From what we can garner, this EV is borne out of an Australian firm called Brighsun EV Group, which is incubated by Malaysia-based tech firm Greenpro Capital Corp. Both firms are deeply vested in developing block chain technologies and the issuance of security tokens, amongst other efforts.

We’re no experts in either fields, so we’ll leave it to you to grasp that through this yahoo! finance report on both firms that we found online.

Back to the mystery EV in hand and, further digging revealed even more interesting details. We found a website dedicated for this EV established by Brighsun EV Group online. From which, it indicates that this EV harnesses solid state battery (SSB) tech that promises up to 1,000 KM of travel range.

Apart from which, little else is known about this 2U Chat EV crossover. If anything, the fact that the unit we sighted today was in left-hand-drive (LHD) configuration is perhaps telling – this may not be for our market at all.

Initially, we reckon the EV we sighted was this: the Chery/Aiqar eQ7 EV compact crossover SUV that launched in China back in Sept 2023. (Image source: CarNewsChina)

The Chery eQ7 is reportedly set to go on sale in neighbouring Philippines soon. However, no word yet if Chery will offer this model in right-hand-drive (RHD) markets yet. (Images: CarNewsChina)

Instead, what might be is the Chery eQ7 mentioned earlier. Said Chery – or Aiqar, depending on which market it enters – looks virtually identical to this 2U Chat-badged EV. However, Chery’s version of what appears to be the same car has more ‘modest’ claims in terms of battery tech and range.

Reportedly launched in China back in Sept 2023, the Chery eQ7 uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) type batteries instead, and two capacities are available – 53.87 kWh or 67.12 kWh. The former promises up to 412 KM range whilst the latter ups the ante to 512 KM instead, though do note these are CLTC figures.

Presently, Chery hasn’t offered the eQ7 in right-hand-drive (RHD) form yet, but is reportedly set to market it in neighboring Philippines soon.
