Chinese EV makers XPeng is set to enter key ASEAN markets – namely Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia – this year and, at the forefront on this effort is the marque’s leading EV SUV offering dubbed the G6.

Notably, the model is being offered in right-hand-drive (RHD) form for the first time through this effort, and the Kingdom north of our Peninsular’s border are set to be the first where it will be released. Ahead, of which, XPeng have released specs and initial prices for the Thai-bound G6 earlier this week.

For the Thai market, XPeng will offer the G6 in two guises - Standard Range and Long Range. No indication on whether the EV maker will offer the G6 in dual-motor form just yet. (Images: HeadlightMag.com)

Two variants will be offered, those being the G6 Standard Range and the G6 Long Range. Based on the detailed report published by Thai automotive portal HeadlightMag.com, the former is set to be tagged onwards from THB1.5 million+ (RM197,183) and THB1.7 million+ (RM223,475) respectively.

Both variants share the same rear-mounted e-motor rated at 218 kW (292 HP) and 440 NM, which in turn enables the XPeng G6 to despatch 0-100 KM/H sprints in just 6.6 secs in Standard Range guise. The Long Range variant however is slightly quicker here, despatching 0-100 KM/H in just 5.9 secs.

For now, no clear indications were given if XPeng intends to offer the G6 in dual-motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) form for the ASEAN market yet. On sale in XPeng’s home market of China, this variant of the G6 sees its driveline shell out peppier output figures of 480 HP and 660 NM.

Two battery sizes and types are available, those being a 66 kWh LFP type promising 580 KM (CLTC) range, and a larger 87.5 kWh NMC type pack promising up to 755 KM (CLTC) range instead.

Back to the Thai-spec models and, the key difference between the Standard Range and Long Range guises lie in their respective battery types and capacity. The lower-end offering harnesses a 66 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) type pack, promising up to 580 KM (CLTC) on a full charge.

The higher-end Long Range variant, on the other hand, benefits with a larger 87.5 kWh nickel cobalt manganese (NMC) type battery pack. In turn, the larger capacity sees this variant promise longer 755 KM (CLTC) range, but keep in mind that actual real-world test figures will be much lower.

Both models see their drivelines packaged into a chassis that also fitted with an 800-volt EV architecture, which allow them to support ultra-fast DC charging inputs as high as 280 KW. At this rate, up to 300 KM of travel can be attained from just 10 minutes of charging, in fact.

In terms of size, the XPeng G6 is comparable to the likes of the Tesla Model Y, BMW iX3, and Hyundai Ioniq 5.

In terms of size and dimensions, the XPeng G6 sits 3,753 MM long with a 2,890 MM wheelbase, 1,920 MM wide, and 1,650 MM tall. Said sizing puts the XPeng G6 share a similar footprints as the rivalling Tesla Model Y, BMW iX3, and Hyundai Ioniq 5.

On board, the Thai-bound XPeng G6 duo are more or less on par with the bulk of its segment rivals mentioned. Highlights include a massive 14.96-inch central infotainment touchscreen matched with a 10.2-inch digital instrument panel, power-adjustable front seats, and an 18-speaker audio suite.

Other premium amenities present include stow-away door handles, powered charging port door, panoramic glass roof, powered tailgate, plus a slew of active driver assistance systems (ADAS) that enables a high degree of semi-autonomous driving abilities.

Key premium amenities present on board include fully digital displays, panoramic glass roof, power-adjustable front seats, a myriad of ADAS features enabling high degree of semi-autonomous driving, and more.

That’s as much as we can garner from initial preview specs released by XPeng for the Thai market earlier this week. Overall, it’s plain to see that this, like many other Chinese-made alternatives, is specced to sell – a fact sweetened by its somewhat accessible prices.

Closer to home, the XPeng G6 is widely tipped to be the first model offered by newly appointed distributors Bermaz Auto Bhd (BAuto). Expect the firm to show the XPeng G6 in Malaysia shortly after the model’s sales starts in both neighbouring Thailand and Singapore later this year.
