Perodua EMO-II Teased Ahead Of KLIMS 2024 Debut

Perodua has teased its new 'EMO-II' online via its official YouTube and Facebook pages.
Second national carmaker Perodua is set to show off what appears to be a near-final road-going version – at least in our eyes – of its EMO-1 concept. Released earlier today on its official YouTube channel and Facebook page was a new teaser video depicting its new ‘EMO-II’.
Unlike the EMO-1, the new Perodua EMO-II looks to be a more ‘complete’ car, and could perhaps be at near-production stage. Being a teaser, Perodua naturally didn’t explain anything at length other than promising a thrilling innovation once it debuts fully at KLIMS 2024 this week.
As a refresher, the EMO-1 stood as proof of concept for Perodua’s first all-electric powertrain. Using a three-phased permanent magnet synchronous motor, the EMO-1’s powertrain had claimed outputs of 120 kW (160 HP) and 220 NM to enable 0-100 KM/H sprints In 7 to 9 secs.
Also shown in the EMO-1 was an NMC-type battery pack with a claimed 57.6 kWh capacity. Apart from 11 kW AC charging, the pack also accepts 50 KW DC charging inputs, the latter enabling full re-charges in just over an hour. Perodua also touts a maximum range of 350 KM too.

As a refresher, the Perodua EMO-1 concept shown earlier this year during MAS 2024 stood as a proof of concept of Perodua's first ever EV powertrain.
Powertrain aside, it appears that the EMO-II retains the EMO-1’s original direction of being a compact, Myvi-sized hatchback. Unlike the EMO-1 though, the EMO-II appears to have more work done with its exterior styling.
New here are both the head- and taillights, both now sporting a full-width lightbar connecting both sides too. It also appears Perodua opted to decorate the front bumper with novel LED lighting where the intakes would naturally be, and it shares the same ‘camouflage’ motif as the taillights.

This being a show car, the lit-up Perodua emblems up front and in the rear were perhaps expected. Beyond which, there’s not much else to deduce from this latest teaser. In other words, we’ll need to wait until KLIMS 2024 Press Day to gauge further.
Nevertheless, this teaser is a very promising sign. As reported prior, Perodua is widely tipped – and supposedly assisted – by MITI to launch its first affordable (sub-RM100,000) EV for the masses by next year (2025).

Initial speculative render of Perodua's upcoming first EV by local artist Theottle.
Adding to which is Perodua’s recent efforts in partnering with Gentari – Petronas’ green energy and EV-charging arm – to install EV chargers at its service centres. Additionally, access to Gentari’s EV charging network for Perodua customers is also in the pipelines through said partnership.
So, what do you folks reckon? Would the sight of what’s to become Perodua’s first mass market EV be enough to convince you to visit KLIMS 2024 this week, which opens up to the public from Dec 5 onwards? Share your take in the comments below, as well as our social media pages…
