Proton Confirms Second e.MAS Model Coming This Year

Proton has confirmed that a second e.MAS EV model is set to debut this year, with its batteries “coming together” with the car.
Proton has just announced that a second e.MAS EV model is due for debut this year. This was confirmed by its deputy CEO, Roslan Abdullah, during an iftar session with media and industry representatives last night.

During his speech, the DCEO also said that the battery for the second e.MAS model will “come together” with the car, which is a cheeky remark to Perodua’s plan to offer its first EV model with a battery leasing scheme. Beyond that, no further details were shared by neither Roslan nor Proton as a whole regarding the identity of its second EV model.

News of a second Proton e.MAS model has been circulated around for quite some time, with Proton’s CEO, Dr. Li Chunrong, previously mentioning such plans earlier this year. Similarly, numerous rumours have also suggested that the second e.MAS model might be based on a small EV hatch by Geely, the Geome Xingyuan.

Further strengthening the rumour is the fact that Proton previously showed the Xingyuan EV to some of its Proton e.MAS dealers during a special trip to Geely’s home base in Zhejiang, China. On top of that, an old teaser video of the Proton e.MAS brand also showcased a silhouette of a small EV hatch, which looks painstakingly similar to the Xingyuan hatch.
Not to forget, the cheeky remark made by Proton’s DCEO over Perodua’s upcoming EV hatch also plays on the possibility that the second e.MAS model might be a small hatchback, where it will go directly against the production version of the Perodua eMO-II EV concept.

As detailed prior, the Geome Xingyuan comes with a single, rear-mounted (RWD) electric motor setup capable of delivering up to 114 HP (85 kW), allowing the small hatch to have a V-max of 135 KM/H. Juice is provided by either a small 30.12-kWh CATL-sourced LFP battery pack that supplies the car with up to 310 KM of CLTC range, while the top-spec model gets a bigger 40.16-kWh LFP unit also from CATL, promising a better CLTC range of 410 KM.
