MAS 2025: Second-Gen GAC Aion V Previewed – Launching in Q3 2025

GAC Motor Malaysia has previewed the second-gen GAC Aion EV crossover at the ongoing Malaysia Autoshow 2025.
Following its global debut at Auto China 2024 last year, the second-gen GAC Aion V has finally made its first public appearance in Malaysia at the ongoing Malaysia Autoshow 2025 (MAS 2025). This compact EV crossover has already made its ASEAN regional debut in Thailand earlier, and now it seems like Malaysia will be its next destination.

Unlike the Aion Y Plus, the new Aion V adopts a more conventional SUV crossover bodystyle, featuring design cues inspired by the T-Rex dinosaur. Some key highlights include the dual-claw LED headlights, muscular fenders, vertical LED taillights, and 19-inch alloy wheels—all packaged in a boxy SUV bodystyle.
Dimension-wise, the new Aion V spans 4,605 mm long, 1,876 mm wide, 1,686 mm tall and has a 2,775 mm wheelbase. This puts it in the same category as other compact EV SUVs such as the BYD Atto 3, the Chery Omoda E5, and the reigning Proton e.Mas 7.

While this particular model shown at GAC Aion Malaysia’s booth is locked, we can see from the clear windscreens that it sports a right-hand drive (RHD) configuration, thus indicating its readiness to debut into our local market.
On the powertrain front, the second-gen Aion V is exclusively powered by a single, front-mounted e-motor rated at 201 HP (150 kW) and 240 NM, thus enabling a decent 0-100 km/H time of 7.9 seconds. Flat out, this car can go up to 160 km/h before the electronic limiter kicks in.

Juice is provided by a sizable 75.2-kWh LFP-type GAC ‘Magazine Battery’ pack that is good enough for up to 605 km of NEDC range. Charging figures are also quite decent in the Aion V, as it supports DCFC at up to 180 kW, allowing a 30-80% charge to be completed in just 16 minutes. AC charging, however, is capped at only 7 kW.

As of now, GAC Aion local brand custodian Warisan TC Automotif (WTCA) has confirmed that the new GAC Aion V will be part of its product roster, where it is expected to be officially launched sometime in Q3 this year. Should WTCA get the price right, the Aion V could potentially become a viable alternative to the likes of the aforementioned BYD Atto 3, Chery Omoda E5, and the Proton e.MAS 7.
