MAS 2025: smart #5 Previewed – RHD Units Coming Soon

Thea all-new smart #5 was showcased in Chinese-marker (LHD) Summit edition form during MAS 2025.
Besides the Proton e.MAS 5 teaser preview, Proton’s PRO-NET arm had its hands full at this week’s Malaysia Autoshow 2025 (MAS 2025) with its ‘other’ brand – smart Automobiles.
As expected following leaked spyshots and a perfectly timed soc-med teaser, PRO-NET (smart Automobile Malaysia) elected to preview the all-new smart #5 EV crossover SUV at its smart Automobile brand booth located in Hall A1 at MAS 2025.

Showcased at Hall A1, the new smart #5 Brabus takes on a very rugged yet sporty stance.
What we initially thought to be the Brabus variant turned out to be the Chinese market ‘Summit’ edition variant instead. Like the Brabus guise noted, this left-hand-drive (LHD) unit shown locally also packs a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup underneath.
In fact, it’s one of four variants currently offered in China, with the Summit edition guise pictured slotting below the manic Brabus performance range-topper. In this guise, the #5 boasts a combined output of 587 PS plus a sizeable 100 kWh NMC battery pack.

Much these unique design and styling touches are expected to remain int he Malaysia-bound smart #5.
Critically, the latter NMC type pack, which is only brimmed in dual-motor, AWD variants, can yield up to 590 KM of WLTP-rated range. Charging speeds weren’t dished out, but the brand touts the battery can re-charge 10-80% in just 15 minutes via DC charging.
Despite showcasing it in this form, we reckon the #5 will not come to Malaysia with this powertrain. Instead, expect a similar approach as seen in the #1 and #3 duo where we’ll see three variants with two battery capacity and single- or dual-motor choices.

Apart from the usual all-LED head- and taillights setup, the Summit edition brings a roof-mounted all-LED light bar as well.
On the subject of launch, PRO-NET were naturally tight-lipped about the matter, but we’ve been hinted by insiders that the smart #5 could be introduced locally as early as the third quarter (Q3) of this year – well ahead of the CBU EV incentive’s expiry.
Additionally, in the lead-up to which, PRO-NET insiders also mooted that right-hand-drive (RHD) versions will be brought in for local previews soon. In other words, get ready for another round of teasers and previews lasting several months to start soon.

Key new highlights on board include a pair of 13-inch AMOLED dual-displays, 256-colour ambient lighting suite, as well as a new 20-speaker audio suite by Sennheiser.
Should it eventually launch, much of the novelties seen in the Summit edition guise showcased at MAS 2025 should remain too. Key highlights include the new massive dual 13-inch AMOLED passenger display screens and the 256-colour ambient lighting suite.
Another new novelty worth looking forward to in the smart #5 is the new 20-speaker Sennheiser Signature Sound System primed in its cabin. As a refresher, the German audio experts mark their debut in the automotive OEM space through the #5.

Did we mentioned that the smart #5 is the brand's largest ever model to date?
This being the brand’s largest ever product to date too, the presence of up to 1,530 litres of boot space plus a 72-litre frunk and up to 34 smart compartments headlines this crossover SUV’s practicality traits.
Though it’s perhaps too early to speculate on price, given how the #1 and #3 duo are positioned against their European peers, expect the #5 to do the same. Our best guestimate is a starting price between RM250,000 and RM275,000, but don’t take our word just yet…

See the smart #5 at MAS 2025 showcased in the smart Automobile booth located in Hall A1 of MAEPS.
In the meantime, you can gauge and size up the smart #5 Summit edition at the smart Automobile Malaysia (PRO-NET) booth located in Hall A1 during MAS 2025.
