MGS5 EV Set for Official Launch on May 20

At last, the much-awaited MGS5 EV is finally set for launch in Malaysia next week on May 20. The launch will take place during MG Motor Malaysia’s week-long roadshow at Centre Court, Mid Valley Megamall from May 20 to 25.
The MGS5 EV has been teased and previewed in stages, starting with a teaser campaign, followed by a registration of interest, an exclusive media preview and most recently, a public preview at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 (MAS 2025).
Now, it’s time for buyers and the public to get full access to the model, including its official pricing.

To recap, the MGS5 EV is essentially the export version of the MG ES5, which was launched in China last Oct. This fully electric B-segment SUV measures 4,476 MM long, 1,849 MM wide and 1,621 MM tall, with a wheelbase of 2,730 MM. Its size puts it in close competition with models like the BYD Atto 3 and recently launched Honda e:N1.
MG Motor Malaysia, under SAIC Motor Malaysia, had previously indicated an estimated starting price of RM115,000. While this figure isn’t yet final, full pricing and warranty details will be announced at the launch next week.

What we know so far is that the MGS5 EV will be available in two variants: COM and LUX. The COM variant offers a choice between a 49 kWh battery with a 340 KM WLTP range or a larger 62 kWh pack delivering up to 430 KM.
The LUX variant exclusively features the 62 kWh battery, matching the higher COM variant's 430 KM range. It also adds more premium features, including 18-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated leather steering wheel, wireless charging, a six-speaker sound system, powered tailgate, and a 360-degree parking camera.

Powering the MGS5 EV is a rear-mounted electric motor delivering 168 HP and 250 Nm of torque, driving the rear wheels. All variants support 7 kW AC charging, while DC fast charging peaks at 120 kW for the COM and 150 kW for the LUX.
LED headlights with MG’s signature 'Racing Flag' daytime running lights and stylish Arch Taillights give the MGS5 EV a distinctive look. Inside, the cabin will feature a 12.8-inch infotainment screen with voice command, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a 10.25-inch digital instrument display.

Customers will be able to choose from five exterior colours: White, Monument Silver, Camden Grey, Dynamic Red, and Elegant Latte.
For those eager to get behind the wheel, the Mid Valley roadshow offers the only public test drive opportunity for the MGS5 EV. Stay tuned for full pricing and package details this Tuesday.
