UMWT Hands Over xEV Fleet to MOT

UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) is supporting Malaysia’s clean mobility push through a strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Transport (MOT). Through which, UMWT recently delivered a fleet comprised of various of electrified vehicles (xEV) to the Ministry, reinforcing the role of private-sector innovation in shaping sustainable public policy.
UMWT president Datuk Ravindran K said the journey to net-zero emissions by 2050 demands collaboration from every sector. He noted, “our support is beyond formality - it enables policymakers to experience the effectiveness of electrified vehicles first-hand.”

He also added, “Toyota’s Multipathway approach is inclusive, practical, and tailored to Malaysia’s needs - ensuring that no one is left behind as we move toward a cleaner and more sustainable future.”
Five vehicles were handed over to MOT comprised of three hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) - the Toyota Alphard, Camry and Corolla Cross — along with two battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in the form of the Toyota bZ4X and its Lexus RZ twin.

These vehicles will allow the Ministry to experience first-hand the real-world performance and day-to-day usability of these xEV’s. The data and experience gained will help MOT to better formulate future plans and policies.
Toyota’s Multipathway approach to electrification is shaped by local conditions. At this current juncture, hybrids offer a more practical and accessible solution to reduce emissions, without putting pressure on current infrastructure which includes access to charging facilities.

Mohd Shamsor Mohd Zain, UMWT execrtuvie director, said hybrid technology remains a key part of Toyota’s electrification roadmap.
“It offers immediate reductions in emissions without the need for sweeping infrastructure changes. This makes it ideal for building mass-market confidence while paving the way toward full electrification,” he said.

The collaboration according to UMWT aligns with national targets under the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint and the National Energy Transition Roadmap. It also reflects Toyota’s broader Multipathway strategy, which includes BEVs, HEVs, PHEVs, FCEVs and next-generation technologies such as hydrogen and synthetic fuels.
Rooted in the “Move Your World” vision, UMWT’s efforts aim to deliver mobility solutions that are inclusive, responsible and grounded in real-world needs.
Through such engagement with government agencies such as MOT, industry and the public, UMWT plans to play an important role in building a cleaner, more connected transport ecosystem for Malaysia.
