Second-Gen Xpeng P7 Bows In – EV Saloon with Up to 586 HP & 820 KM CLTC

The all-new, second-gen Xpeng P7 makes its global debut in China, featuring up to 586 hp and 820 km of CLTC range.
Following its first images preview and leaked specs, the much-anticipated, second-gen Xpeng P7 finally made its global debut in China. This sleek, all-electric fastback saloon arrives with radical design bits, as well as promising performance and range figures.

Underpinning the same SEPA2.0 platform with an 800-volt silicon carbide battery architecture, the new P7 is available in both single RWD and dual-motor AWD powertrain options. The former is rated at 362 hp (270 kW), while the latter boasts a combined output of 586 hp (437 kW), allowing the P7 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds, while V-max is capped at 230 km/h for both.
To go with its decent powertrain setup, the new P7 gets some serious mechanical bits, including optional Brembo brakes that allow a braking distance of just 33.16 metre from 100 km/h. With a double-wishbone front and multi-link rear damper setup, plus a dual-chamber air suspension system, we can also expect decent driving dynamics out of this sleek EV saloon.

Two battery options are available for the new P7, namely the smaller 74.9-kWh LFP unit sourced from Eve Energy and a larger 92.2-kWh ternary NMC battery pack from CALB—the latter reserved for the two Long Range variants. Paired with the single RWD motor, the Long Range variant gets up to 820 km of CLTC range, Xpeng claims.
Thanks to its 800-volt architecture, the new P7 supports 5C fast charging with a peak rate of up to 486 kW, enabling a 10-80% charge to be completed in just 11.3 minutes. Xpeng also said that the P7 will get 512 km of range just from a 10-minute charge—a new industry standard, the automaker claims.

Design-wise, the new P7 represents a pretty significant departure from Xpeng’s previous design ethos, featuring its new Xsmart Face front design with through-type LED DRLs where the actual headlights are snuck beneath the light bar.

From the side, the P7 gets a pretty sleek, fastback-like silhouette with a rakish rear windscreen, blackened A-pillars to create a floating roof effect, and flushed door handles for better aerodynamics. As a result, the vehicle achieved a sublime drag coefficient rate of 0.201 Cd, making it one of the most slippery EV saloons in the world.

Not to forget, customers can also pick several wheel design options with sizes ranging from 20 to 21 inches—all of which feature aero-optimised spoke design for better range and aerodynamics.

The rear design mirrors the front with matching H-shaped LED taillights, plus a retractable active rear spoiler. Just like any other fastback, the P7’s tailgate can be opened entirely as one piece, which provides a large aperture to its equally large 575-litre boot space.

On board, the P7 gets Xpeng’s new “Technology Island” front dash setup, with the biggest highlight being its expansive 87-inch AR-HUD sourced from Huawei. The expansive HUD is accompanied by a 15.6-inch central infotainment unit and a slim digital instrument cluster that hides behind its three-spoke, button-laden steering wheel.

Keen eyes will notice that the P7 comes with capacitive touchpad smart control buttons at the door panels, which can be customised for quick actions and functions like seat ventilation and reading lights, with more to come in future software updates.

Topping off the tech amenities are the ambient lights, a large panoramic glass roof, a wireless charging pad, an 8-inch infotainment screen for rear passengers, and many more.

On the intelligent driving part, the new P7 is powered by three Xpeng Turing AI chips, with two of them powering the advanced driving VLA (Very Intelligent Driving) model, while the third one combines with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chip to power its intelligent cabin VLM (Very Intelligent Cabin) model.

As of now, Xpeng has yet to unveil pricing details for the new P7, but we can expect it to be priced around the CNY 300,000 (RM176,538) region in native China. Once it enters the market, the new P7 will face stiff competition against local favourites like the Xiaomi SU7 and Zeekr 007, as well as some European contemporaries like the BMW i5 and the Lotus Emeya.
