Tesla Model Y L Launched in China - Six-Seater, 751 KM Range

Tesla introduced a new Model Y L variant in China recently. Standing as its first six-seater SUV in the country, the model is priced from RMB339,000 (RM199,000) onwards.
In terms of price alone, this new variant of Tesla’s popular EV crossover SUV undercuts earlier expectations of a higher entry price. Additionally, deliveries are set to commence from Sept onwards too.

The Model Y L is positioned as the largest and most premium option in Tesla’s line-up in China. At 4,976 MM long with a 3,040 MM wheelbase, it offers greater interior space than the five-seat Model Y, along with a redesigned roofline, re-engineered rear spoiler and a drag coefficient of 0.216 for improved aerodynamics.

Inside, Tesla has equipped the SUV with a new 16-inch infotainment unit, upgraded wireless charging pads supporting both 50W and 30W, and an enhanced sound system featuring a centre console speaker and two additional top speakers.

Each seat across all three rows comes with its own charging port, while three-row airbags extend coverage to more than 95% of the cabin. Cargo space maxes out at a generous 2,539 litres.
Performance is delivered through a dual-motor AWD setup producing 340 kW (456 HP) combined, enabling a 0–100 KM/H sprint in 4.5 secs. The 82 kWh battery pack from LG Energy Solution gives the SUV a CLTC range of 751 KM, with efficiency rated at 12.8 kWh/100 km.

This makes the Model Y L the longest-range option in the lineup, edging out the five-seat Model Y Long-Range.
The launch arrives at a crucial time for Tesla in China, as Model Y sales have softened this year with a 17% decline in retail deliveries between Jan and July.

By introducing a larger, family-oriented SUV at a competitive price point, Tesla is aiming to revitalise demand and better compete with local rivals such as Nio and Li Auto, who already dominate the six-seat EV SUV space.
With its mix of extended range, expanded interior space and new premium features, the Model Y L is expected to strengthen Tesla’s position in the world’s largest electric vehicle market while intensifying competition in China’s increasingly crowded SUV segment.
