Polestar 5 EV Bows In as an 872 HP-Rated Porsche Taycan Rival

Making its global premiere at the IAA Mobility 2025 show is the all-new, Porsche Taycan-rivalling Polestar 5 EV.
Besides BMW and Mercedes-Benz, Sino-Swedish marque Polestar also took the centre stage at the ongoing IAA Mobility 2025 motor show to unveil its new flagship four-door performance grand tourer, the Polestar 5.

Billed as yet another Porsche Taycan rival, the new Polestar 5 stays true to its concept version, the Polestar Precept, featuring a sleek four-door coupe saloon bodystyle with familiar design cues derived from its siblings.

Key features include the dual-blade headlights with Pixel LED technology, a sleek fastback-style silhouette with a sloping roofline, full-width LED taillights, aggressive rear bumper accents, retractable door handles, frameless windows, and wheel options ranging from 20 to 22 inches.

On board, the new Polestar 5 continues the brand’s minimalist design ethos, featuring a futuristic cabin laced with tons of high-tech amenities. Naturally, the crown jewel of the whole cabin is the large 14.5-inch portrait infotainment screen powered by Google’s Android Automotive, which is accompanied by a slim 9-inch digital metre cluster and a 9.5-inch head-up display.

The front seats, designed in collaboration with Recaro, get ventilation, heating, and massage functions, and can be wrapped in either MicroTech or Nappa leather upholstery. And given its sporty exterior look, Polestar says the 5 was designed primarily as a four-seater, where the centre rear seat can be folded down to reveal controls for the climate control, as well as heating, ventilation, and massage controls for the rear seats.
Rounding off the cabin amenities list are the digital rearview mirror, flax-based trims and accents, a standard 10-speaker audio system with an optional 21-speaker Bowers & Wilkins unit, and a massive panoramic glass roof. Cargo-wise, you’ll find a relatively small 365-litre boot space at the rear, plus an even smaller 62-litre frunk under the hood.

Premium amenities and practicality aside, what Polestar truly aims for with its new four-door GT is on the performance front, with the model underpinning the brand’s proprietary Polestar Performance Architecture with an 800-volt battery system.
The standard version’s dual-motor setup is already rated at 738 hp (550 kW) and 812 Nm, which enables a rapid century sprint time of 3.9 seconds and a 250 km/h limited V-max. Juice is provided by a 112 kWh NMC battery pack that supplies up to 670 km of WLTP range for this sleek four-door GT.

If you really want to take on the Taycan, perhaps the Performance variant will make more sense, as its dual-motor AWD setup has been uprated to deliver 872 hp (650 kW) and 1,015 Nm. This reduces its century sprint time to only 3.2 seconds, at the expense of a shorter WLTP range of 565 km, as it uses the same pack as the standard variant.

Apart from the peppier motor setup, the Polestar 5 Performance also rides on a sportier suspension with adaptive dampers that can react to road surfaces within three milliseconds, plus several Swedish Gold-hued accents on its Brembo brake callipers and valve caps.
Battery-wise, both variants can support DCFC at up to 350 kW, taking the battery from 10% to 80% in just 22 minutes. AC charging is also available at up to 19 kW for convenient home charging.

The all-new Polestar 5 is now available for booking in Europe, with prices in Germany starting from €119,900 (RM591,406) for the entry-level model and €142,900 (RM704,854) for the Performance variant. The automaker did confirm that the four-door GT will make its way to 24 other markets in due time, although North America is not included in the initial list.
