TQ Wuling Bingo EV CKD Production Set to Begin in Dec 2025

The new SGMW-Tan Chong joint venture EV plant will start its local assembly efforts this Dec with the TQ Wuling Bingo.
Following its initial preview at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 earlier this year, China’s SAIC GM Wuling Automobile (SGMW) is slated to begin the local assembly (CKD) of its first EV model in Malaysia, the TQ Wuling Bingo, at its new EV plant with local partner Tan Chong Motor Holdings Berhad (TCM).
As reported by Bernama, the CKD operation for the Bingo EV will take place at the Tan Chong Motor Assembly (TCMA) plant in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur, later in December this year, with SGMW deputy general manager Dehong Han saying the first vehicle for the Malaysian market will be ready by the end of the year or by Jan 2026 at the latest.
“ASEAN is our key focus market now,” he told Bernama during the Asia-Pacific journalists’ visit to the SGMW Baojun base here earlier this week.

With its CKD operations set to commence soon, Malaysia will be the fourth country in the Southeast Asia region for SGMW, as the automaker also operates plants in Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam.

As of now, SGMW confirmed that the new CKD plant will only be in charge of assembling the Bingo EV, with no further comment given on other potential models from the group’s vast portfolio.
Look across the straits, and we can see that SGMW does have several models under its right-hand drive (RHD) portfolio, including Indonesia-only models like the Wuling Almaz, Wuling Confero, Wuling Cortez, and many more.
For those who aren’t familiar with SGMW, the automaker was established back in 2002 from a partnership with Chinese automotive giant SAIC Motor alongside General Motors (China) and Guangxi Automobile Group Co Ltd. Under its vast arms, SGMW operates marques like Wuling and Baojun, as well as assembling several Chevrolet models for the Chinese market.

With its CKD operations set to commence soon, the upcoming TQ Wuling Bingo is slated for launch later in Q4 this year, with an estimated price below the RM100,000 mark. Should this be true, the Bingo could potentially become the most affordable EV on sale in our market, at least before the Proton e.MAS 5 and Perodua QV-E debut.
