Indonesia becomes the next RHD market to debut the Jaecoo J5 EV, with prices starting from only RM62,949.

Following Thailand and the UK, Indonesia has become the next right-hand drive (RHD) to debut the Jaecoo J5 EV. Two variants of this B-segment EV SUV are offered in said Republic, with prices starting from only IDR 249.9 million (RM62,949) for the Standard variant and IDR 299.9 million (RM75,544) for the top-spec Premium.

That said, the prices listed above are for the limited early-bird promotion, which only applies to the first 1,000 customers who purchased the J5 EV.

Both variants share the same powertrain setup, featuring a 60.9-kWh battery pack that is good for up to 461 km of EV range—at least according to the more lenient NEDC standards. Power is provided by a single FWD motor setup rated at 208 hp (155 kW) and 288 Nm, which is good for a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 7.3 seconds.

Charging-wise, the Indo-spec J5 EV supports both AC and DC charging methods, with the latter capped at 130 kW and allowing the car to be charged from 30% to 80% in 28 minutes. And just like many other modern EVs nowadays, the J5 EV also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality at a 3.3 kW rate, which essentially transforms the car into a giant mobile power bank.

On the design front, the Indo-spec J5 EV looks more or less the same as its Thai counterpart. Some key exterior design features include a grill-less front face with rectangular LED headlights, slim LED taillights, 18-inch alloy wheels with aero-optimised spoke covers, and up to four exterior colour options—Forest Green, Jet Black, Pristine White, and Ivory Gray.

In terms of dimensions, the J5 EV spans 4,380 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, and 1,650 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,620 mm, thus putting it on par with other popular B-segment EV crossovers like the MG S5 EV, BYD Atto 2, and its Wuhu stablemate, the Chery Omoda E5.

Onboard amenities are also largely carried over from the Thai-spec model, with key highlights including a 13.2-inch central infotainment display, a smaller 8-inch digital metre cluster, powered and ventilated front seats wrapped in synthetic leather upholstery, eight speakers, multi-colour ambient lights, a powered sunroof, and many more.

While both Thailand and Indonesia already got the new Jaecoo J5 EV, only the ICE version of the J5 is confirmed for Malaysia, which is set to be launched by the end of this year with an estimated price tag of RM120,000. Should Omoda | Jaecoo Malaysia consider offering the J5 EV alongside its ICE-powered twin, or would you rather see the hybrid version coming in first?
