The Adrian Newey-designed Red Bull RB17 hypercar has evolved to become more unhinged in its 'final' form.

Red Bull Advanced Technologies unwrapped what it touts to be the final design for its long-anticipated RB17 – a track-only hypercar initially designed and engineered by race engineering master Adrian Newey, who left the Red Bull F1 Team fold for Aston Martin.

Having thrown road-legal restrictions out of the equation, the Red Bull RB17 is poised to outclass things like the Aston Martin Valyrie AMR Pro by taking things to further extremes. It stands to become the most unhinged track toy for those who can afford it.

First shown in mid-2024 at the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed, plenty of changes have occurred. Key visual changes include a more resolved carbon fibre splitter plus redesigned integrated LED lighting.

Down the sides, the Red Bull RB17 now rocks fully functional wing mirrors, F1-style sculpted sidepod gills, as well as a new aero shark fin integrated in the roof and centreline for enhanced high-speed cornering and straight line blasts.

With road-legal restrictions out of the way, the Red Bull RB17 promises to be the most extreme track car capable of outclassing F1 cars at select tracks too.

Over to the rear and there’s now an even more aggressive wraparound rear wing design, followed by a pair of massive venturi tunnels in the lower half. Repositioned now too is the exhaust, which now exits through the engine cover.

On board, the Red Bull RB17 sees its interior design and layout finalised too. Brimmed here is a racing-style steering wheel design matched with a large central screen serving as the main cockpit readout and instrumentation.

Underneath, the Red Bull RB17 employs a Cosworth-built 4.5-litre V10 screamer that revs up to 15,000 rpm and output at least 1,000 hp.

Underneath, the Red Bull RB17 harnesses a screamer heart in the form of a 4.5-litre naturally aspirated V10 Cosworth mill that boasts both the ability to rev up to 15,000 rpm and generate no less than 1,000 hp –arguably the best possible sound-and-output combo.

According to technical director Rob Gray, the decision to build the Red Bull RB17 as a track-only weapon allowed the engineering team to forego the usual limitations normally imposed on road-going cars.

Inside, the cockpit is brimmed with a racing steering wheel matched with a large digital screen serving as its main instrument readout.

In turn, said freedom allows the Red Bull RB17 to stand toe-to-toe with an F1 car versus every other extreme but road-legal alternative that can be acquired by private hands.

Moreover, simulations show this hypercar being theoretically capable of outperforming F1 cars at select tracks. If you ever wondered what a single-seat racecar could look like if it wasn’t stifled by restriction, the Red Bull RB17 definitely comes close to said concept.
