Reviews

Summary

The Honda e:N1 is a five-seat electric compact SUV offered in Malaysia in a single front-wheel-drive variant. Fully imported from China by Dongfeng Honda, its current official retail price is RM150,060 on-the-road without insurance in Peninsular Malaysia.

Its electric motor produces 150 KW or 204 PS and 310 NM, while a 68.8-kWh battery delivers up to 500 KM of NEDC range or approximately 412 KM under WLTP testing. Warranty coverage includes Honda’s five-year unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty and eight years or 160,000 KM for the battery and electric drive system.

Interior

Dashboard

The dashboard is dominated by a vertically oriented 15.1-inch touchscreen divided into three display sections. It is joined by a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, blue ambient lighting and illuminated door trim.

Centre Console

The raised centre console contains the push-button drive selector, electronic parking-brake controls, wireless charging pad and storage compartments. Its clean layout suits the e:N1’s technology-focused cabin.

Instrument Cluster

The 10.25-inch TFT display presents speed, battery level, remaining range, energy usage and driver-assistance information. Its hoodless design gives the driver’s area a clean and open appearance.

Seats

Leather upholstery is standard, while the driver receives eight-way powered adjustment. The rear bench folds in a 60:40 configuration to increase luggage capacity when required.

Space

The five-seat cabin provides comfortable room for four adults and remains reasonably accommodating for a fifth passenger. Its 2,610-MM wheelbase is shorter than several newer electric SUVs, but the underfloor battery helps provide a relatively open passenger compartment.

Steering Functions

The leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel provides controls for audio, calls, driver information and Honda SENSING. Steering-wheel paddles allow the driver to adjust the strength of regenerative deceleration.

Storage Space

Storage areas include a glovebox, door pockets, front centre-console compartments and front seatback pockets. The e:N1 does not provide a separate front boot.

Cup Holders

Two cup holders are positioned within the front centre console. Additional drink storage is available through the rear centre armrest and door pockets.

Charging Ports

The cabin provides two front USB ports—one Type-A and one Type-C—plus two Type-C charging ports for rear passengers. A 15-W wireless smartphone charger is also fitted.

Build Quality

Leather upholstery, soft-touch surfaces and ambient lighting provide a pleasant cabin atmosphere. Some harder plastic panels remain, but the controls and general assembly retain Honda’s familiar functional presentation.

Boot Space

The rear luggage compartment provides 344 litres of capacity with the rear seats upright. The 60:40 split-folding backrests allow larger items to be carried, although the boot is smaller than those of several competing electric SUVs.

Exterior

Body Dimensions

The e:N1 measures 4,380 MM long, 1,790 MM wide and 1,592 MM tall, with a 2,610-MM wheelbase. Kerb weight stands at 1,662 KG, while ground clearance is relatively low for an SUV at 142 MM.

Front View

Its general proportions closely resemble the Honda HR-V, but the front receives a smooth closed fascia with an integrated charging-port door. A white Honda emblem identifies it as part of the brand’s electric vehicle range.

Rear View

The rear features a wide LED lighting strip, sculpted tailgate and prominent Honda lettering instead of the conventional central badge. Its sloping roofline and raised lower bumper give it a crossover-style appearance.

Headlamps

Automatic LED headlamps are paired with LED daytime-running lights, LED fog lamps and sequential LED front turn indicators. Auto High Beam is also included through Honda SENSING.

Tail Lamps

Full-LED rear combination lamps are connected visually by a slim horizontal light strip. The lighting arrangement gives the e:N1 a wider and more distinctive appearance at night.

Side Mirror

The exterior mirrors are electrically adjustable, heated and automatically retractable. Reverse auto-tilt improves kerb visibility, while Blind Spot Information indicators warn of vehicles travelling alongside.

Brakes

Ventilated disc brakes are fitted at the front, with solid discs at the rear. They are supported by regenerative braking, ABS, Brake Assist, electronic stability control and an electric parking brake.

Wheels

The Malaysian e:N1 rides on 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels wrapped in 225/50 R18 tyres. A temporary tyre-repair kit is provided instead of a conventional spare wheel.

Features

Active Safety

Active-safety equipment includes Vehicle Stability Assist, Agile Handle Assist, ABS, Auto Brake Hold, Hill Start Assist, Emergency Stop Signal and a tyre-deflation warning system. Front and rear parking sensors and a multi-angle reverse camera are also standard.

Passive Safety

Six airbags are fitted, comprising dual front, front-side and side-curtain airbags. ISOFIX child-seat mounting points, front and rear seatbelt reminders and a rear occupant reminder are also included.

Drive Modes

Three selectable settings are available: ECON, Normal and Sport. They adjust accelerator response and energy usage, while the deceleration paddles provide additional control over regenerative braking.

Infotainment

The 15.1-inch touchscreen separates infotainment, vehicle information and climate controls into three sections. It supports built-in navigation, Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto connectivity.

Driver Assistance

Honda SENSING includes Collision Mitigation Braking System, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Road Departure Mitigation and Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow.

Auto High Beam and Lead Car Departure Notification are also fitted. Blind Spot Information and Cross Traffic Monitor further assist when changing lanes or reversing from a parking space.

Sound System

A six-speaker audio system is standard. Music can be played through Bluetooth, USB, Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

Performance

Engine

A front-mounted AC synchronous electric motor produces 150 KW or 204 PS and 310 NM. Maximum torque is available immediately, giving the e:N1 responsive acceleration during city driving and overtaking.

Transmission

The motor operates through a single-speed electric reduction gearbox. Power delivery is smooth and uninterrupted, without conventional gear changes.

Drivetrain

The e:N1 is built on Honda’s e:N Architecture F platform and sends power exclusively to the front wheels. The battery is mounted beneath the floor to lower the centre of gravity and improve stability.

Acceleration

The e:N1 accelerates from 0 to 100 KM/H in 7.7 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 160 KM/H. Its performance is brisk enough for daily driving without being overly aggressive.

Fuel Consumption

A 68.8-kWh NMC lithium-ion battery provides up to 500 KM under NEDC testing, or approximately 412 KM WLTP.

Charging supports up to 10 KW AC, with a 10% to 80% charge taking around six hours. Maximum DC charging is limited to 78 KW, requiring approximately 50 minutes to charge from 30% to 80% under suitable conditions.

Comfort

Convenience

Convenience equipment includes smart entry, push-button operation, Walk Away Auto Lock, automatic wipers, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, Auto Brake Hold and wireless smartphone charging.

Rear Air Vents

Dual-zone automatic climate control is fitted with dedicated rear air-conditioning vents. Climate settings are accessed through the lower section of the central touchscreen.

Ride Comfort

MacPherson-strut front suspension and a torsion-beam rear arrangement provide a familiar and predictable driving experience. The underfloor battery gives the e:N1 a planted feel, although its 18-inch wheels and short-travel suspension can feel firm over sharper road imperfections.

Sound Insulation

The electric powertrain removes conventional engine noise and vibration from the cabin. Wind noise is generally controlled, although tyre noise can become more noticeable on coarse Malaysian road surfaces.

Wrap Up

Conclusion

The Honda e:N1 offers familiar HR-V-like dimensions, responsive electric performance and a comprehensive Honda SENSING package. Its comfortable cabin, 412-KM WLTP range and established Honda after-sales network make it an approachable option for buyers moving into an EV for the first time.

However, the 78-KW DC charging limit, 344-litre boot and lack of a powered tailgate, 360-degree camera or sunroof place it behind several newer rivals in equipment and charging capability. At its official RM150,060 price, its appeal depends heavily on Honda ownership confidence and any stock-dependent promotional rebates.
