Reviews

Summary

The Hyundai IONIQ 6 N is a fully electric performance sedan offered in Malaysia as a single dual-motor AWD variant. Priced at RM449,888 on-the-road without insurance in Peninsular Malaysia, it is imported on an indent basis and built to order. Matte Nocturne Grey and Gravity Gold finishes cost an additional RM3,000.

Its twin motors produce up to 478 KW or 650 PS and 770 NM with N Grin Boost, while an 84-kWh battery provides up to 487 KM of WLTP range. Both the vehicle and high-voltage battery receive an eight-year or 160,000-KM warranty.

Interior

Dashboard

The driver-focused dashboard combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen within a curved display panel. A head-up display presents speed and performance information closer to the driver’s line of sight.

Centre Console

The redesigned fixed centre console provides physical controls, additional storage and knee support during hard cornering. A wireless charging pad and USB-C connections are positioned within easy reach.

Instrument Cluster

The 12.3-inch digital cluster offers N-specific graphics showing motor output, battery temperature, lap information and performance settings. It works together with the head-up display and N Track Manager.

Seats

N sports bucket seats combine Alcantara suede and genuine leather, with illuminated N logos and Performance Blue stitching. The manually adjustable front seats include heating and ventilation, while the outer rear seats are heated.

Space

The five-seat cabin benefits from a long 2,965-MM wheelbase and flat EV floor. Rear legroom is generous, although the low roofline may feel less spacious for taller passengers than an electric SUV.

Steering Functions

The N-exclusive steering wheel provides direct controls for N Grin Boost, N drive settings and simulated gear changes. Paddle shifters operate N e-Shift or adjust regenerative braking depending on the selected mode.

Storage Space

Storage includes the glovebox, door pockets, centre-console compartments and an open tray beneath the dashboard area. The redesigned console offers more usable storage than the previous IONIQ 6 layout.

Cup Holders

Front cup holders are integrated into the centre console, while additional bottle storage is provided within the doors and rear passenger area.

Charging Ports

USB-C charging ports are available for front and rear passengers, together with a Qi wireless smartphone charger. The 3.6-KW Vehicle-to-Load system can also power external electrical equipment.

Build Quality

Alcantara, genuine leather, a black suede headliner and Performance Blue stitching give the cabin a suitably premium and sporting atmosphere. Customisable ambient lighting can also respond to selected N functions.

Boot Space

The rear boot provides 371 litres of VDA-rated luggage capacity. Its opening is reasonably wide, although the fastback body and performance hardware make it less practical than the IONIQ 5 N.

Exterior

Body Dimensions

The IONIQ 6 N measures 4,935 MM long, 1,940 MM wide and 1,495 MM tall, with a 2,965-MM wheelbase and 141 MM of ground clearance. Kerb weight ranges from approximately 2,166 to 2,201 KG.

Front View

Its low front fascia features N-specific air curtains, active air flaps and additional cooling openings. Luminous Orange detailing and wider bodywork give it a more aggressive appearance than the regular IONIQ 6.

Rear View

The rear is dominated by a prominent swan-neck wing, N-specific bumper and functional diffuser. These components improve high-speed stability while distinguishing the N model from the standard fastback.

Headlamps

LED headlamps feature Hyundai’s Intelligent Front Lighting System, accompanied by slim pixel-style daytime-running lights and automatic high-beam assistance.

Tail Lamps

Full-LED tail lamps retain Hyundai’s Parametric Pixel lighting signature. They are complemented by a triangular high-mounted brake lamp and N-exclusive rear lighting details.

Side Mirror

Gloss-black conventional exterior mirrors are fitted as standard. Malaysian buyers can add camera-based digital side mirrors for RM10,000

Brakes

The braking system uses 400-MM ventilated front discs with four-piston monobloc calipers and 360-MM ventilated rear discs. N Brake Regen supplements the mechanical brakes during demanding driving.

Wheels

The IONIQ 6 N rides on 20-inch forged alloy wheels wrapped in wide 275/35 R20 performance tyres. The lighter forged construction helps reduce unsprung weight while maintaining high cornering grip.

Features

Active Safety

Standard active-safety systems include ABS, electronic stability control, hill-start assistance, multi-collision braking, tyre-pressure monitoring and Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist.

Passive Safety

The Malaysian IONIQ 6 N is equipped with six airbags, together with ISOFIX child-seat mounting points, three-point seatbelts and a reinforced E-GMP body structure.

Drive Modes

Available modes include Eco, Normal, Sport, N, Custom 1 and Custom 2. Drivers can separately adjust suspension stiffness, steering response, torque distribution and other performance settings.

Infotainment

The 12.3-inch touchscreen supports navigation, Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. N Track Manager records lap times, sector performance and cornering data, while over-the-air updates support selected vehicle systems.

Driver Assistance

Hyundai SmartSense includes Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Smart Cruise Control with stop-and-go, Lane Following Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist. A surround-view monitor, Blind-Spot View Monitor and Remote Smart Parking Assist are also included.

Sound System

An eight-speaker Bose premium audio system with an external amplifier is standard. N Active Sound+ adds Ignition, Evolution and Lightspeed sound profiles to create a more engaging performance experience.

Performance

Engine

The front motor produces 166 KW or 226 PS, while the rear motor develops 282 KW or 383 PS. Combined output is 448 KW or 609 PS and 740 NM, increasing temporarily to 478 KW or 650 PS and 770 NM with N Grin Boost.

Transmission

The motors use single-speed reduction gearing, but N e-Shift simulates an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission through programmed torque interruptions, paddle-operated shifts and matching sound effects.

Drivetrain

A dual-motor all-wheel-drive system sends power to both axles. N Torque Distribution allows the driver to alter the front-to-rear power split, while a rear electronic limited-slip differential improves cornering traction.

Acceleration

The IONIQ 6 N accelerates from 0 to 100 KM/H in 3.4 seconds normally, 3.3 seconds with N Grin Boost and 3.2 seconds when N Launch Control is activated. Top speed is 257 KM/H.

Fuel Consumption

Its 84-kWh lithium-ion battery provides up to 487 KM of WLTP range. A 10.5-KW AC charge from 10% to 100% takes approximately seven hours and 35 minutes, while charging from 10% to 80% using a 350-KW DC charger takes around 18 minutes.

Comfort

Convenience

Convenience features include smart-key access, a sunroof, wireless smartphone charging, Remote Smart Parking Assist and Vehicle-to-Load functionality. The optional digital side mirrors provide camera feeds through displays positioned near the dashboard edges.

Rear Air Vents

Dedicated rear air ducts are included with the dual-zone automatic climate-control system. Heated outer rear seats further improve passenger comfort.

Ride Comfort

Electronically Controlled Suspension adjusts damping according to the selected Normal, Sport or N setting. It remains firm and performance-focused, but Normal mode provides enough compliance for regular commuting.

Sound Insulation

The electric powertrain remains quiet during relaxed driving, while N Active Sound+ intentionally introduces synthetic performance sounds when desired. Wide performance tyres may produce more road noise than those fitted to the regular IONIQ 6.

Wrap Up

Conclusion

The Hyundai IONIQ 6 N is designed to deliver more than rapid EV acceleration. Its adjustable torque distribution, simulated gearshifts, active sound system, adaptive suspension and track-focused battery management give drivers greater involvement than most electric performance sedans.

Its 650-PS output, 3.2-second acceleration and 487-KM range are impressive, but the RM449,888 price places it well above several similarly quick rivals. The firm ride, low ground clearance and modest boot may also limit everyday practicality. Nevertheless, it is a distinctive choice for enthusiasts seeking an EV that prioritises handling and driving engagement.
