Maxus eTerron 9 EV

The Maxus eTerron 9 is a fully electric double-cab pick-up offered in Malaysia as a single Dual Motor AWD variant. Fully imported from China, it is priced at RM223,888 on-the-road without insurance in Peninsular Malaysia.

Its dual-motor powertrain produces 325 KW or 442 PS and 700 NM, while a 102.2-kWh LFP battery provides up to 430 KM of WLTP range. Local ownership coverage includes five years of vehicle warranty and roadside assistance, together with an eight-year or 160,000-KM battery warranty.

The dashboard features two adjoining 12.3-inch displays, comprising a digital instrument cluster and central infotainment touchscreen. Its horizontal arrangement, soft-touch surfaces and two-tone trim create a more SUV-like appearance than a traditional commercial pick-up cabin. 

A floating centre console provides physical vehicle controls, storage areas and a wireless smartphone charging pad. Its raised design leaves an additional open compartment beneath the main console.

A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster displays speed, remaining range, energy consumption, driver-assistance status and all-terrain information. It is visually joined to the matching 12.3-inch infotainment display. 

Two-tone leather upholstery is fitted, while the powered driver’s seat receives ventilation, massage and memory functions. The front seats can also be folded to create a nearly flat resting area approximately 1,700 MM long. 

The long 3,300-MM wheelbase provides generous space for five occupants. Rear passengers benefit from a wide bench and relatively spacious legroom, making the eTerron 9 suitable for both commercial use and family journeys. 

The two-spoke multifunction steering wheel incorporates controls for media, voice functions, driver assistance and the digital display. Its relatively compact design helps maintain a clear view of the instrument cluster.

Maxus provides approximately 20 storage compartments around the cabin, including large door pockets, dashboard storage and centre-console compartments. A powered 236-litre front boot provides additional secure storage for tools, luggage or charging equipment. 

Cup holders are positioned within the front centre console, with additional drink storage available for rear occupants through the folding centre armrest and door pockets.

The cabin includes Type-A and Type-C USB ports, together with wireless smartphone charging. Vehicle-to-Load functionality allows external devices and equipment to draw up to 6.6 KW from the traction battery. 

The cabin uses leather upholstery, detailed stitching and soft-touch materials to deliver a noticeably more premium environment than most work-focused pick-ups. Its presentation is intended to balance commercial durability with passenger-car comfort. 

The rear cargo bed can accommodate conventional equipment and recreational gear, while the midgate allows items up to approximately 2,400 MM long to extend into the cabin. A separate powered front boot provides another 236 litres of enclosed storage. 

The eTerron 9 measures 5,500 MM long, 2,005 MM wide and 1,860 MM tall, with a lengthy 3,300-MM wheelbase. Kerb weight is approximately 2,880 KG, making it considerably larger and heavier than most conventional mid-sized pick-ups.

Its cargo bed measures approximately 1,561 MM long, up to 1,600 MM wide and 535 MM deep. The vehicle is also rated to tow up to 3,500 KG when using a braked trailer. 

The front follows Maxus’ “New Electrified Mecha” design language, featuring a largely enclosed fascia, prominent MAXUS lettering and vertically positioned lighting units. C-shaped daytime-running lights surround the main lamps and are linked by a slim LED light bar. 

The upright rear incorporates large MAXUS lettering, a through-type lighting design and a wide cargo bed. Its opening midgate allows the rear cabin and cargo area to be combined when transporting particularly long objects. 

LED headlamps and C-shaped LED daytime-running lights are fitted as standard. Automatic headlamp activation and intelligent high-beam control are also included within the global specification. 

Full-LED tail lamps use a horizontal through-type design to emphasise the pick-up’s width. A high-mounted LED brake lamp and separate cargo-area lighting are also provided. 

The exterior mirrors are electrically adjustable, heated and power-folding. Blind-spot warning indicators and surrounding cameras help the driver monitor areas that may be difficult to see from such a large vehicle. 

Disc brakes are fitted at both the front and rear, supported by regenerative braking, ABS, electronic brake-force distribution, Brake Assist and electronic stability control. 

The Malaysian eTerron 9 rides on 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in sizeable 275/55 R20 tyres. The high-profile tyres complement its rugged styling while providing additional cushioning on uneven surfaces.

Active-safety equipment includes autonomous emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-keeping assistance, emergency lane keeping, electronic stability control, hill-descent control and tyre-pressure monitoring.

Occupant protection includes front, side and curtain airbags, together with a strong body structure designed around the battery platform. The eTerron 9 has also achieved a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating.

The All-Terrain System offers dedicated Eco, Normal, Sport, Snow, Off-road and Tow settings, together with a configurable Custom mode. The personalised setting allows the driver to adjust characteristics such as power response, steering, stability control and energy recuperation. 

The 12.3-inch touchscreen supports Bluetooth, navigation and both wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Connected services and selected vehicle functions can also be controlled through the infotainment interface. 

Its driver-assistance suite includes adaptive cruise control, integrated cruise assistance, lane-departure warning, blind-spot detection, door-opening warning and rear-collision warning. A 360-degree camera and front and rear parking sensors assist when manoeuvring the 5.5-metre-long body. 

An integrated audio system is provided together with Bluetooth and smartphone connectivity. The final speaker count for the Malaysian specification has not been officially detailed.

The eTerron 9 uses two permanent-magnet electric motors. The front motor produces 125 KW and 250 NM, while the rear motor develops 200 KW and 450 NM, giving a combined output of 325 KW or 442 PS and 700 NM. 

Each motor operates through a single-speed electric reduction drive. Power is delivered immediately without the conventional gear changes found in a diesel-powered pick-up.

One motor powers each axle, creating an electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system. The All-Terrain System continuously adjusts power distribution and traction according to the selected driving mode and road surface. 

Despite weighing almost 2.9 tonnes, the eTerron 9 accelerates from 0 to 100 KM/H in 5.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 190 KM/H. 

Its 102.2-kWh LFP battery provides up to 430 KM of WLTP range, with official combined energy consumption rated at approximately 26.7 kWh per 100 KM. 

The eTerron 9 supports 11-KW three-phase AC charging and up to 115-KW DC charging. A 20% to 80% DC charge takes approximately 40 minutes under suitable conditions, while V2L output reaches up to 6.6 KW. 

Convenience features include keyless operation, automatic lights and wipers, wireless smartphone charging, a powered front boot and assisted tailgate. The Malaysian showcase specification also includes a panoramic sunroof and powered comfort features for the driver.

Dedicated rear air-conditioning vents are positioned behind the front centre armrest, providing additional airflow to occupants seated in the second row. 

The eTerron 9 is built on a dedicated electric platform with independent suspension and a self-levelling air-suspension system in the higher specification. The system helps maintain stability when carrying cargo or towing while also providing a more controlled ride than a conventional leaf-sprung pick-up. 

The silent electric powertrain removes diesel engine vibration and combustion noise from the cabin. Its enclosed body, premium interior materials and road-focused suspension should provide a relatively refined driving environment, although Malaysian road-noise performance remains to be independently assessed.

The Maxus eTerron 9 introduces electric performance to the pick-up segment without abandoning utility. Its 442-PS dual-motor powertrain, 3.5-tonne towing capability, large cargo bed, opening midgate and 236-litre front boot make it suitable for both work and recreational use.

Its biggest weaknesses are the modest 430-KM range relative to its large battery, a 115-KW maximum charging rate and its considerable size and weight. At RM223,888, it is also substantially more expensive than the diesel Terron 9. Nevertheless, it offers a distinctive combination of pick-up practicality, strong acceleration and SUV-like cabin comfort.
