Porsche Taycan

The Porsche Taycan is a four-door electric sports saloon currently offered in Malaysia from RM775,000. The priced range comprises the Taycan, Taycan 4S, Taycan GTS, Taycan Turbo, Taycan Turbo S and Taycan Turbo GT, with prices reaching RM1.55 million for the Turbo GT and Turbo GT with Weissach Package. All figures are base prices before optional equipment.

Outputs range from 408 PS in the rear-wheel-drive Taycan to 1,034 PS in the Turbo GT. The MY2027 update also introduces the optional E-Shift system, a new infotainment interface and improved smartphone and AI voice-control functions. Porsche covers the high-voltage battery for eight years or 160,000 KM, with minimum battery-capacity guarantees during the warranty period.

The driver-focused dashboard features a curved 16.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.9-inch central touchscreen and an 8.4-inch lower display for climate and vehicle controls. An additional passenger-side touchscreen is available as an option.

The rising centre console houses the lower climate display, storage areas and selected shortcuts. The compact drive selector is positioned beside the instrument cluster, leaving the centre area visually clean and uncluttered.

The curved 16.8-inch digital instrument display can be configured with several layouts, including navigation, assistance information, power output and traditional Porsche-style circular instruments. MY2027 models receive an updated interface with customisable widgets. 

A four-seat arrangement is standard on most versions, with an optional 4+1 rear-seat configuration providing a small centre position. Powered front comfort or sports seats are available with heating, ventilation, memory and massage functions depending on specification. The Turbo GT Weissach Package removes the rear seats to reduce weight.

The Taycan provides good space for front occupants and adequate adult accommodation in the rear. Its low roof and battery positioning create a more enclosed seating position than a conventional luxury saloon, but recessed rear footwells improve passenger comfort.

The multifunction sports steering wheel provides controls for media, displays and selected assistance functions. Sport Chrono-equipped models add a rotary drive-mode selector, while the MY2027 E-Shift option introduces paddles for operating eight simulated gears. 

Storage includes door pockets, a glovebox, centre-console compartments and areas beneath the front armrest. A separate front luggage compartment provides convenient space for charging cables and smaller bags.

Two cup holders are positioned within the front centre console, with additional drink holders available for the rear passengers.

USB-C charging ports are available for front and rear occupants, together with 12-volt accessory connections. A wireless smartphone charger is offered depending on the selected interior package.

The cabin combines leather, Race-Tex, aluminium, carbon fibre and sustainably produced materials according to specification. Assembly quality and switchgear remain appropriately premium, although the large number of touch-sensitive controls may require familiarisation.

The rear luggage compartment provides up to 407 litres, while the front boot adds approximately 84 litres. The rear seatbacks can be folded for longer items, although the saloon-style opening is less versatile than the separate Cross Turismo. 

The Taycan Sport Saloon measures approximately 4,963 MM long, 1,966 MM wide and 1,379 MM tall, with a 2,900-MM wheelbase. Exact height, kerb weight and aerodynamic details vary slightly according to variant, wheels and chassis equipment. 

Its low front end features strongly curved front wings, a smooth EV-specific nose and large outer air intakes. The wide and flat proportions give the Taycan the appearance of a traditional Porsche sports car despite its four-door body. 

The sloping roofline flows into pronounced rear shoulders and a short rear deck. A full-width glass-effect light bar, three-dimensional Porsche lettering and an active rear spoiler complete the low and muscular appearance.

Porsche’s four-point LED lighting signature is standard across the range. Camera-controlled Matrix LED headlamps are available, while Turbo models receive HD Matrix LED lighting as standard. 

The full-width LED rear light bar incorporates three-dimensional Porsche lettering beneath its glass-effect surface. Dynamic lighting functions and customised animations are available depending on specification.

The exterior mirrors are electrically adjustable and heated, with power-folding and automatic-dimming functions available according to the selected equipment package. Flush-fitting door handles extend automatically when the vehicle is unlocked.

Brake specifications vary substantially between variants. Entry models use large ventilated steel discs, while Porsche Surface Coated Brakes and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes are fitted or available on higher-performance versions. The Turbo GT receives track-focused braking hardware designed for repeated high-speed use.

Wheel sizes range from 19 to 21 inches depending on variant and configuration. The Taycan 4S and higher models receive sportier designs, while the Turbo GT uses lightweight forged wheels and performance tyres to reduce unsprung weight.

Standard active-safety systems include Porsche Stability Management, traction control, ABS, Brake Assist, multi-collision braking and tyre-pressure monitoring. The regenerative system works together with the mechanical brakes during normal driving.

Occupant protection includes front, knee, front-side and curtain airbags, together with ISOFIX child-seat mounting points. Rear-side airbags are available depending on model and configuration.

Available settings include Range, Normal, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual, depending on equipment. Turbo GT models additionally receive more aggressive track-oriented functions, while Push-to-Pass temporarily increases performance on selected variants.

Porsche Communication Management provides navigation, connected services, wireless smartphone integration and over-the-air functionality. The MY2027 Porsche Digital Interaction interface adds redesigned widgets, improved application support and an AI-assisted Voice Pilot. 

Lane Keeping Assist, traffic-sign recognition and parking assistance are available across the range. Adaptive cruise control, Porsche InnoDrive, Active Lane Keeping, Remote ParkAssist and a surround-view camera are fitted or offered depending on the variant and selected options.

The standard Sound Package Plus can be upgraded to a BOSE surround-sound system or a high-end Burmester 3D system. Porsche Electric Sport Sound is available across the range and is standard on selected high-performance models.

The rear-wheel-drive Taycan produces up to 300 KW or 408 PS. AWD outputs increase to as much as 598 PS for the Taycan 4S, 700 PS for the GTS, 884 PS for the Turbo and 952 PS for the Turbo S. The Turbo GT produces up to 760 KW or 1,034 PS with Launch Control. 

The rear motor operates through an automatically shifting two-speed transmission, allowing strong initial acceleration and efficient high-speed running. AWD variants add a front motor with a single-speed reduction gear. The optional E-Shift system simulates an eight-speed performance transmission but does not replace the physical two-speed rear gearbox. 

The entry-level Taycan uses rear-wheel drive, while the 4S, GTS, Turbo, Turbo S and Turbo GT use dual-motor all-wheel drive. Power distribution is continuously adjusted to balance efficiency, traction and handling performance.

The Taycan reaches 100 KM/H in 4.8 seconds, while the 4S requires 3.7 seconds and the GTS 3.3 seconds. The Turbo completes the sprint in 2.7 seconds, followed by 2.4 seconds for the Turbo S and 2.3 seconds for the Turbo GT. The Weissach-equipped Turbo GT reduces this to 2.2 seconds.

The Taycan uses either an approximately 89-kWh Performance Battery or a larger 105-kWh Performance Battery Plus, depending on variant and configuration. Combined range reaches up to approximately 626 KM, with actual figures varying according to powertrain, wheels and equipment.

Its 800-volt system supports DC charging at up to 320 KW with the Performance Battery Plus. Under suitable conditions, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in around 18 minutes. Standard AC charging is rated at 11 KW, with a faster 22-KW onboard charger available. 

Convenience equipment includes powered front seats, electrically operated luggage compartments, connected remote services and automatic climate control. Comfort Access, a panoramic glass roof, passenger display and powered charging-port covers vary according to specification.

Automatic climate control provides dedicated ventilation for rear occupants. Four-zone climate control is available for buyers requiring individual rear temperature adjustment.

Adaptive air suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management is fitted across the updated range, balancing firm body control with usable everyday comfort. Porsche Active Ride is available on AWD versions and actively controls body movement during acceleration, braking and cornering. 

The electric drivetrain is quiet during normal driving, while aerodynamic bodywork and extensive insulation reduce wind noise. Wider tyres on Turbo and Turbo GT variants generate more road noise, while Porsche Electric Sport Sound can deliberately add a more emotional soundtrack.

The Porsche Taycan remains one of the most driver-focused electric saloons available in Malaysia. Its precise handling, strong braking, advanced air suspension and exceptionally consistent performance distinguish it from EVs designed primarily around acceleration figures.

The current range also offers much longer driving range and faster charging than the original Taycan. However, prices now begin at RM775,000, optional equipment can substantially increase the final cost, and rear and luggage space remain less practical than larger luxury EVs. The regular Taycan and 4S provide the most usable balance, while the GTS, Turbo and Turbo GT target increasingly performance-focused buyers.
