Government Working On Making EVs More Affordable; To Bring In EVs Under RM100k

The government plans to bring in electric vehicles (EVs) under the price of RM100,000 to benefit the middle class thus achieving the goal of a low carbon future.
The Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad admitted that most EV prices now exceed RM100,000 and of course it is beyond the means of most people.
"Most of the EVs that enter our market are more than RM100,000, so we will see how the government can play a role, including forging cooperation with related automotive companies.

"We are looking at how we can bring in more affordable EV vehicles whether the vehicles are assembled in the country which may help us to offer EVs at a lower price," he told reporters after launching the Bangi Resort EV Charging Station at the Bangi Golf Resort Hotel, here, today
He also emphasised that to encourage the use of EVs in this country, many incentives were given by the government in support of a carbon-free country.

"Even before this, the government has given incentives for EV ownership and so on, but for the future we will see whether the 2023 Budget will be revised or in the 2024 Budget the government will add more incentives for the car," he said.
For record, the previous government provided incentives in the form of direct and indirect tax deductions for EV assembly or manufacturing activities, component manufacture, and ecosystem development, such as the construction of charging stations.
