TNB Electron Juru R&R Southbound Now Open - 200kW, RM1.50/kWh

Yes, we have not been on our best behaviour lately towards the nation's sole electricity provider Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), particularly with their EV Charging arm TNBX, which is tasked with rolling out the TNB Electron EV charging network.

The main reason for it was to call into question the six (6) charging stations that were supposed to be up and running by March 2024 but have yet to appear. However, in a social media post today, TNBX announced that it has activated its latest DC Fast Charging (DCFC) station in Juru, which was not one of the six locations planned initially.
Despite this, we aren’t ones to complain about new DCFC locations coming online.

The new TNB Electron DCFC station at the Juru R&R Southbound is the first to charge users based on kWh drawn rather than minutes spent charging. This is a stark contrast from the other three TNB Electron stations placed at Ayer Keroh (Northbound), Tapah North-South Motorway (Northbound), and Paka East Coast Motorway 2 (Northbound).
Furthermore, this would be TNB's highest output DCFC facility to date, capable of up to 200kW versus 180kW at its other locations. The charging rate at TNB Electron Juru is set at RM1.50/kWh, which is comparable to the prices set by most other CPOs.

A quick check of the Energy Commission's (ST) website did not reveal whether this new charging station has been licenced yet - said number of licenced charging stations on the site has remained static at 223 locations for quite some time.
This also comes despite the fact that ST representatives stated on national television that their licence processing speed is currently not more than 30 days and will be improved to 14 days very soon. We don't see any improvement on that front yet unfortunately.

The TNB Electron Juru R&R Southbound is conveniently located in front of said rest area’s F&B outlet, specifically KFC. This grants EV users who are plugged in there to charge an easy and convenient place to grab a quick bite before continuing their journey.
