Order books for the new Jaecoo J6 off-road-ready EV SUV have been opened in Thailand. Malaysia soon?
While the Malaysian market has been selected as the first to debut the Jaecoo brand in the ASEAN region, it appears that our northern neighbour is about to get the first taste of its rugged EV SUV model, the Jaecoo J6.
As reported by Thai auto portal Headlightmag, the Jaecoo J6 EV SUV is now open for booking in Thailand, where it will be offered in two variants, namely the baseline Long Range 2WD and the top-spec Long Range 4WD.

Previewed locally at the Malaysia Autoshow earlier this year, the J6 is essentially a Jaeco-badged version of the iCar 03, another sub-brand owned by Chery. Featuring a boxy yet rugged design, the J6 promises to be a capable, all-electric off-roader, thanks to its healthy ground clearance of 170 MM.

Dimension-wise, the Jaecoo J6 measures 4,406 MM long, 1,910 MM wide, 1,715 MM tall, and with a wheelbase of 2,715 MM – making it slightly smaller than other B-segment EV SUVs on sale in our market, such as the Chery Omoda E5 and GAC Aion Y Plus.

On board, we can expect the Thai-spec J6 to get the same tech amenities list as its iCar-badged twin in China. This includes a 9.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch central infotainment display powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor, a 50-watt wireless charger, an optional 12-speaker Infiniti audio system, and many more.

As expected , the Thai market gets two powertrain flavours for the Jaecoo J6.
As we mentioned prior, the Thai market will get two versions of the Jaecoo J6, with the baseline Long Range 2WD model being powered by a single, rear-mounted (RWD) electric motor rated at 181 HP (135 kW) and 220 N. Meanwhile, the range-topping J6 Long Range 4WD gets a peppier dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setup that delivers a total output of 275 HP (205 kW) and 385 NM.
For the batteries, the J6 Long Range 2WD gets a smaller 65.69-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack that grants it 371 KM of WLTP range, while the 4WD model benefits from a bigger 69.77-kWh unit that is good for a shorter WLTP range of 364 KM. Regardless of variants, the J6 supports both AC 6.6 kW and DC 80 kW charging, plus a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function that can supply power up to 3.3 kW.

Deliveries for the Jaecoo J6 EV SUV are slated to begin towards the end of the year, with estimated prices starting at THB 1.099 million (RM138,371) for the baseline Long Range 2WD and THB 1.249 million (RM157,257) for the top-spec Long Range 4WD model.

Closer to home, Jaecoo Malaysia has confirmed that the J6 will make its local debut some time later in 2025, although no specific date was given by the automaker. Prior to its debut, perhaps we can expect the J8 midsize SUV to make its debut ahead of this all-electric off-roader as the second-ever model by Jaecoo Malaysia, following the debut of the J7 last month.
