Maintain Heavy Vehicle Safety Or Risk APAD Suspension - Loke

Transport Minister Anthony Loke has issued a stern reminder to all commercial vehicle operators in Malaysia, emphasizing the critical importance of vehicle safety and responsible operation on the roads. Failure to comply with these safety standards could result in severe consequences, including potential suspension by the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD).

This stringent action would be taken if commercial vehicles involved in accidents fail to meet the required safety standards during the Road Transport Department's (JPJ) audit process. Loke highlighted that this safety audit process has been implemented as a mandatory component in the event of a heavy vehicle accident.


"If there is an accident, doesn’t matter a normal accident or a fatal one, the lorry company will be audited. Last year there were hundreds of lorry companies that failed their audits and had their operations suspended,” he says in a Bernama report.
Regarding the JPJ staff body cams, Loke says that the procurement process for the matter is currently undergoing. The Ministry of Transport is aiming to conclude this procurement in collaboration with the police force, he added.


Additionally, Loke emphasised that the prohibition on USB and three-pin outlets on express buses remained in force while the rules governing their use were still being developed. This comes after a teenager in Butterworth, Penang, died from electrocution last November after charging his phone on an express bus.
