The upcoming Proton e.MAS 5 EV has already charted 1,607 bookings within 24 hours of its booking commencement.

Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd (PRO-NET) today announced that the upcoming Proton e.MAS 5 EV has achieved 1,607 bookings within 24 hours of its booking commencement on Oct 4, 2025.

With an estimated starting price between RM60,000 and RM80,000, the e.MAS 5 could possibly become Malaysia's first ‘true’ affordable EV, as reflected in the positive reception during the booking announcement.

Said positive reception towards Proton’s second EV model is then followed by a first-of-its-kind livestream organised by PRO-NET for the e.MAS 5 Open for Booking announcement, which was simultaneously broadcast through multiple social media channels and platforms.

Initially previewed back in Aug this year, the e.MAS 5 underpins the Geely Geome Xingyuan EV hatch, which was crowned as the best-selling passenger car model in China for the first half of 2025.

As detailed prior, wo variants of the e.MAS 5 will be available, with the entry-level Prime packing a 30.12 kWh LFP battery pack with a 250 km WLTP range, followed by the up-specced Premium with a larger 40.16 kWh LFP battery plus a longer 325 km WLTP range.

Charging-wise, both variants of the e.MAS 5 can accommodate both 6.6 kW AC and up to 71 kW DC charging inputs, with the latter promising 30-80% re-charges in just 21 minutes.

Although it is touted as a B-segment EV hatch, the e.MAS 5 offers a C-segment-like interior space brimming with modern amenities. Key highlights include a 14.6-inch central infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an integrated live charging map, an 8.8-inch digital metre cluster, a 360-degree camera system, a standard 375-litre boot space expandable to 1,320 litres, a 70-litre frunk, and a host of ADAS functions.
